About The Position

JOB DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the AVP of Facility Management, the Director is responsible for implementing Emory's Energy Management Program, including the planning, reporting, modeling, and monitoring of campus energy and water use. Provides vision, leadership, and direction in the creation of short- and long-term energy strategies to achieve the University's energy and carbon reduction goals and ensure high quality, reliable, and affordable utilities for the campus. Assists in the long-range planning for the physical development of Emory's utility infrastructure and environmental control systems to support enhanced Emory Enterprise resilience and master planning initiatives. Participates in project development and implementation relating to sustainability, resilience, and utility projects. Provides insight and expertise regarding third party financing of large utility initiatives through established relationships in the energy and utilities market. Drives innovation regarding resilience and sustainable, efficient technologies for inclusion in new construction and major renovation projects. Develops proformas to view sustainability and utility investments in a holistic nature creating client and institutional value. Responsible for the utility budget as well as preparation of the annual utility budgets, cost analysis, and utilization reports. Manages the procurement of all utilities which includes but is not limited to natural gas forward hedging; third party power and water purchase agreements; water hub operational management and strategy development of long term procurement and campus projects such as on-site self-generation and microgrid technology to support the University's Sustainability and Resiliency requirements. Strives to improve energy efficiency through careful evaluation of the organization's energy use and the implementation of energy-saving measures and efficient operation. Responsible for timely reporting of energy use and tracking of energy conservation measure results; tracking of energy data in Portfolio Manager, reporting of greenhouse gas data in support of the University's Climate Action Plan; as well as overall management of a centralized energy/water campus database. Establishes and maintains the campus' Energy Master Plan to ensure availability and reliability of utility systems. Manages the Utilities GIS Mapping Program. Provides engineering support in the areas of lighting, lighting controls, building automation, and other areas related to building energy and water use. Reviews Energy Models for new construction as well as large renovations to ensure designs are focused on reducing the energy use index. Works with the Sustainable Performance group to verify accuracy of energy models and updates as needed. Serves as a resource to the Planning, Design and Construction Department for identifying energy efficient technologies and peer institution experiences. Develops Key Performance Metrics for evaluating the operating efficiency of each facility. Develops and reviews appropriate reporting on utilities to address metering errors and inefficient building consumption. Works with other Facility Management areas to correct inefficient uses of energy and water, as well as provide support for LEED certification. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program or other related technical field and seven years of related work experience, which includes a minimum of five years in energy management.
  • Must have previous experience that demonstrates the ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities, excellent organizational and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification is preferred.
