The Job: As Director of Embedded Firmware, you’ll be part of our Embedded Software Team working as a Hybrid employee. StanleyBlack&Decker is looking for an engineering leader to support the development of Embedded software development for brushless motor control products in the space of Professional Power Tools and Outdoor Equipment. In this role, you will lead a team of embedded software engineers responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions to advance our product line. The primary focus will be on power tools and outdoor power equipment, with an emphasis on implementing sensored and sensorless algorithms for brushless motor controls. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering—Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven technical leadership in embedded product development.
  • 10+ years of engineering work experience.
  • 5+ years managing or leading teams.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver technical presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build consensus with stakeholders and teams to identify and pursue opportunities that drive innovation.
  • Strong influence and leadership skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in building internal and external relationships; an inspiring leader to team members, colleagues, and the broader organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Prior experience in embedded software development for motor drives.
  • Experience with connected products, including IoT technologies (Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.).
  • Resource planning experience.
  • Budgetary management experience.
  • Experience in technology and product strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Electrical, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Engineering teams, as well as other product development leaders, to support the VP of Firmware Engineering in executing New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives.
  • NPI Leadership: Take ownership of the technical and schedule execution for embedded software development within New Product Programs.
  • Project Governance: Define project scope and maintain resource planning for current and upcoming NPI programs, including managing budgetary requirements (OpEx & CapEx) to meet program schedules.
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and manage development risks to ensure timely program delivery while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Design Quality Assurance: Ensure that robust design processes and best practices are integrated throughout the development lifecycle to deliver high-quality products.
  • Development Methodologies: Champion and implement advanced product development techniques, such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, Automated Testing (CI/CD), and the integration of AI tools in New Product Development.
