About The Position

About the Role: The Director of EDA Cloud & HPC Architecture is a senior technical leadership role responsible for defining and driving the overall cloud, compute, and high‑performance infrastructure strategy powering Altera’s next-generation EDA (Electronic Design Automation) environments. You will architect scalable HPC systems for large compute workloads, modernize EDA flows for cloud-native operation, and work cross‑functionally with engineering, IT, product, and silicon architecture teams to ensure infrastructure that accelerates design productivity and FPGA innovation. This role combines deep EDA toolchain understanding, HPC performance engineering, and cloud architecture leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 12+ years in HPC, cloud architecture, or EDA infrastructure roles, with at least 5 years leading large technical teams.
  • 8+ years of deep expertise with HPC clusters, schedulers (LSF/Slurm), blades/servers, fabric networking, distributed storage, and large-scale compute optimization.
  • 10+ years of experience in EDA workflows, compute-heavy design environments, or semiconductor design infrastructure.
  • Experience architecting production cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proven ability to define long-term architecture roadmaps and execute complex cross-functional initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with custom compute architectures.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted EDA, ML model training pipelines, or LLM-driven automation strategies.
  • Prior leadership in semiconductor or EDA companies.

Responsibilities

  • HPC & Compute Architecture Leadership Lead the architecture, design, and scaling of high-performance compute clusters supporting EDA flows and large‑scale simulation workloads, ensuring optimal performance, resilience, and throughput.
  • Drive HPC performance modeling, workload optimization, and adoption of new compute architectures (GPU/FPGA‑accelerated, heterogeneous compute).
  • Define roadmaps for future HPC expansion, including hybrid on‑prem and cloud HPC models.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Strategy Architect and implement cloud-based EDA environments enabling elastic compute, distributed workflows, and modern DevOps-driven CI/CD for design tools.
  • Develop cloud migration strategies for critical engineering infrastructure, including compute, storage, and design environments.
  • Establish cost‑optimized multi‑cloud and colocation compute strategies aligned with engineering needs.
  • EDA Platform Enablement Partner with EDA tool engineering to ensure infrastructure is optimized for front-end and back-end design flows, simulation, verification, timing analysis, and ML‑assisted design tools.
  • Enable AI-accelerated EDA flows by integrating compute platforms and cloud pipelines with emerging LLM/AI‑driven tool features (e.g., intelligent design copilots).
  • Drive architectural decisions supporting massive-scale RTL builds, compilation, synthesis, P&R, and FPGA bitstream generation.
  • Operations, Security & Governance Oversee global EDA compute infrastructure operations including clusters, storage fabrics, job schedulers, and engineering data services.
  • Define and enforce high-assurance lab and cloud security policies, including patching, software controls, and compliance frameworks.
  • Implement monitoring, reliability engineering, and performance KPIs to ensure uninterrupted service for engineering teams.
  • Cross-Functional & Executive Leadership Collaborate with silicon, software, architecture, IT, and solutions teams to align infrastructure with business objectives.
  • Drive vendor strategy and negotiate key HPC, cloud, and infrastructure partnerships.
  • Represent Altera in internal and external technical forums as a thought leader in cloud‑native EDA and HPC innovation.
