About The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director of Philanthropy Services, the Director of Donor Stewardship is responsible for setting the overall strategy, priorities, and standards for John Muir Health Foundation’s comprehensive donor stewardship and engagement programs. This position plays an essential role in ensuring a best-in-class donor experience that supports donor retention, loyalty, and long-term philanthropic investment across all giving levels. Responsibilities include oversight of the Donor Stewardship and Partners in Health programs, policies, and systems, and direct management of the Program Manager of Donor Stewardship. This role partners closely with Foundation leadership, frontline fundraisers, Events, Marketing and Communications, Operations, and Health System stakeholders to ensure donor intent is honored, and stewardship efforts advance organizational fundraising goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree. Required. In lieu of bachelor’s degree, equivalent additional years of experience in directly relevant work may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in donor stewardship, donor engagement, fundraising operations, or related development functions. Required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading programs and setting strategy. Required.
  • Experience working within a sophisticated fundraising organization. Required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, judgment, and professional integrity
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans
  • Strong people management, coaching, and team-building skills
  • Exceptional project management and organizational abilities
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret data and drive decisions; high level of comfort with reporting, dashboards, and data-driven performance management
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across teams and with senior leaders
  • Excellent communication skills required, both verbally and in writing, with strong customer service orientation.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of constituents.
  • Accuracy and speed using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must have advanced knowledge and high comfort level generating reports, gift agreements, budgets, performing data entry, list management, and mail merge including editing skills with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with a high degree of professionalism
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic with initiative to creatively solve problems, improve efficiencies and exceed expectations

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced experience with Donor CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge). Preferred.
