About The Position

The Divisional Sales Director is a key strategic partner to Publishing and Finance, aligning with their counterparts to define and deliver sales targets that support imprint and corporate growth goals. In the day-to-day, the Director serves publishing across the life cycle of the book, providing revenue estimates for acquisitions, setting goals, shaping positioning, tracking sales, and addressing any and all other needs that fall under the Sales purview. The Director will internally advocate for divisional growth opportunities with the sales team while also acting as a trusted central resource for reps and channel directors. Requirements

  • At least 7 years' sales experience with broad knowledge of the marketplace and all sales channels
  • Demonstrated history of driving sales growth in key markets
  • Cross-functional leadership skills and the ability to collaborate effectively to achieve outstanding business results
  • Highly organized and analytical; must be able to develop and maintain processes and reporting for regularly assessing sales performance

Responsibilities

  • Forecast revenue for the annual budget and four monthly outlooks, meet with Finance regularly to align on forecasts
  • Key partner with Publisher and APs in strategic sales planning and day-to-day sales needs, including: Provide projections and business insights to support editorial acquisitions
  • Set seasonal title-level goals and model comps in partnership with APs, aligning responsibly with budget targets
  • Partner with publishing on seasonal title positioning from advising on product details to meeting prep, presentation, and follow-up
  • Monitor preorders and projections; meet with APs to review progress towards distribution targets and address shortfalls and opportunities
  • Advocate for title opportunities within Sales, surfacing key updates to sales team and following up with reps on growth opportunities, both frontlist and backlist.
  • Work closely with Sales Planning Director and Inventory to provide proactive stock updates on fast-moving titles; attend print & bind meetings on behalf of Sales
  • Work with analysts to provide sales reporting at all stags of publication, including analysis and presentation materials for author, agent, and brand business reviews.
  • Monitor backlist sales at the topline and for key brands, highlighting opportunities to sales team and flagging notable positive or negative trends
  • Maintain excellent relationships with sales reps and leaders, acting as an advocate for their needs with publishing and as a trusted central resource
  • Partner with Sales Ops to enact operational processes on behalf of publishing, translating ops needs to concrete business outcomes
