The Risk Products & Data Strategy (RPDS) organization is driving the modernization of American Express’s risk platforms to enable new business capabilities, support innovation at scale, and power sustainable New Accounts growth. Central to this effort is the continued evolution of our credit risk decisioning platforms—delivering frictionless acquisition experiences for prospects and customers while effectively managing credit risk across global markets. The Director of Digital Product Management will lead the vision, strategy, and execution of Credit Risk Decisioning products supporting Corporate and Merchant portfolios during the acquisition journey. This role has end-to-end accountability for product development and low-code–enabled delivery of New Accounts risk decisioning capabilities, including critical enterprise initiatives such as Middle Market Modernization (NOVA), Oculus, Merchant onboarding, and the migration of New Accounts products to the Lumi platform. The role also oversees shared Offers Enablement services that support risk eligibility across proactive and interactive offer experiences. This leader will manage and grow a multidisciplinary team of product managers, product owners, and product analysts responsible for designing and delivering scalable credit risk underwriting capabilities. These capabilities leverage internal and external data, advanced risk models, and seamless integrations across risk and non-risk platforms to enable accurate risk assessment and initial line assignment at scale. The Director will operate at the intersection of business, technology, and risk—ensuring platforms and products evolve to meet changing enterprise needs through continuous innovation, evaluation, and deployment. Success in this role requires the ability to influence across multiple levels of leadership, navigate a complex and highly regulated environment, and coordinate large, globally distributed agile teams to deliver high-impact outcomes. This is a highly visible and critical role shaping the future of Credit Risk Decisioning at American Express. The ideal candidate is deeply curious, outcome-driven, and comfortable leading in ambiguity—bringing strong strategic thinking, technical acumen, and a passion for building resilient, high-performing platforms that deliver measurable business value.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in product role, leading high performing agile teams in creating software products in risk management or similar domains.
  • Understanding of Credit Risk and/or Acquisitions Domains.
  • Prior experience, building and scaling new platforms. Ability to envision the larger picture and contribute to functional and capability design of the platform.
  • Comfort with open stack, APIs, AI/ML, Data, cloud, Automation and high availability.
  • Self-motivated and able to act with a high level of independence.
  • A good balance of technical knowledge and business acumen with an ability understand and apply scalable solutions that are product agnostic.
  • Ability to manage fast-paced environment, frequent changing needs, and limited resources.
  • The ability to set a high bar for your team and empower them to achieve great results.
  • A “driver” personality - constantly pushing towards clarity and delivery while balancing the need for great collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Credit Risk Decisioning products, grounded in deep understanding of customer needs, business objectives, and technology capabilities.
  • Translate business goals, usability insights, regulatory requirements, and market trends into actionable product strategies and requirements.
  • Identify innovative ways to leverage low-code platforms to accelerate delivery, improve scalability, and enable reuse across products and markets.
  • Influence business strategies and roadmaps by acting as a subject matter expert, challenging conventional thinking with data, principles, and external perspectives.
  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle from concept through delivery, launch, and ongoing optimization.
  • Own and govern the product backlog, including key features and user stories with clearly defined acceptance criteria.
  • Balance customer needs, business priorities, regulatory considerations, and technical constraints to drive effective prioritization and execution.
  • Define and own outcome-based success metrics, using product data and customer feedback to guide continuous improvement and long-term growth.
  • Establish and oversee governance frameworks for development, risk controls, compliance, architectural standards, and documentation requirements are consistently met.
  • Drive development of global, standardized, and reusable capabilities that are flexible, compliant, and designed for long-term scalability and scale across line of business & geographies.
  • Support development and enhancement of enablement tools and platforms (e.g., authoring, configuration, orchestration) that accelerate delivery and adoption.
  • Define, evolve, and enforce the product operating model, including agile delivery practices, demand management, prioritization, work sizing, capacity planning, quality standards, and fiscal discipline.
  • Proactively identify continuous improvement opportunities to increase delivery efficiency, executional rigor, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with Technology and Solution Managers to ensure efficient, innovative, and high-quality delivery while maintaining stability of current-state processes through transformation.
  • Own stakeholder relationships across Risk Strategy, Lines of Business, Technology, Marketing, Control Management, and other partners.
  • Act as the key interface between business and technology teams to ensure alignment, transparency, and best-in-class customer outcomes.
  • Negotiate trade-offs, resolve conflicts, and align diverse stakeholders around shared priorities and outcomes.
  • Manage strategic relationships with low-code platform product and technology teams, influencing roadmaps and ensuring alignment with enterprise needs.
  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of Product Managers, Product Owners and Product Analysts responsible for delivering critical capabilities.
  • Establish clear product management standards, accountability, and performance expectations.
  • Build a strong product and low-code talent pipeline through hiring, upskilling, and career development.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, constructive dialogue, feedback, and courage, promoting self-awareness, agility, and continuous learning.
