We are seeking a Director of Data Governance who will lead the data governance strategy for Data Solutions, focusing on practical process definition and hands-on management of metadata and data stewardship initiatives. Your expertise will help advance FactSet’s data maturity and ensure our data assets are consistently well-managed, accessible, and reliable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 15+ years’ experience in data governance, product management, or data management
  • Direct experience in metadata management and/or data stewardship in Financial Services and/or Fin-Tech
  • Demonstrated ability to build and evolve data governance frameworks
  • Deep understanding of data lifecycle management, data modeling, and best practices for metadata and documentation
  • Hands-on experience with data cataloging, lineage tracking, and stewardship program management
  • Proven leadership and team development skills in a cross-functional, product-driven environment
  • Strong communication, organization, and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills; experience making data-driven decisions

Responsibilities

  • Data Governance Leadership: Set the vision, define, implement, and continuously scale data governance strategy, standards, and processes. Ensure that high-quality, discoverable, and compliant data is delivered consistently to users and internal stakeholders.
  • Alignment & Accountability: Drive organizational accountability by establishing clear and shared goals for all key data governance roles across multiple business units and stakeholder groups. Hold senior data owners and stewards accountable for outcomes through structured review sessions, transparent progress tracking, and regular reporting to enterprise leadership.
  • Process Definition & Optimization: Oversee the establishment, optimization, and auditability of scalable, repeatable workflows for data sourcing, transformation, delivery, and maintenance across all data domains. Identify and remove cross-departmental obstacles to ensure adoption of best practices.
  • Metadata & Information Management: Champion the development and adoption of robust metadata frameworks and tools. Ensure comprehensive creation, maintenance, and accessibility of metadata across critical datasets. Represent FactSet’s metadata standards in industry forums and drive continuous improvement in metadata management.
  • Data Stewardship Program Oversight: Build and oversee a data stewardship program by appointing, mentoring, and enabling business and technical data stewards. Lead the stewardship community in managing data definitions, driving resolution of data quality challenges, and promoting deep ownership of key data assets across FactSet.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Lead alignment on data governance priorities, working in close partnership with Product Management, Engineering, and other departments. Chair or participate actively in the Data Governance Steering Committee, influencing directors, executive stakeholders, and business owners to drive adoption and success.
  • Strategic Communication & Representation: Provide regular, impactful updates on data governance initiatives, program effectiveness, and data maturity goals to executive leadership. Serve as FactSet’s data governance representative at external industry events and in client engagements.
  • Coaching & Enablement: Mentor, train and empower an organization focused on governance, stewardship, and metadata best practices. Evangelize data maturity for Data Solutions across the department
  • Continuous Innovation: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and experimentation in governance practices, technologies, and frameworks. Lead the development and validation of business cases for governance initiatives. Assess impact, iterate on strategy, and catalyze the adoption of solutions that maximize value.
  • Client, Market & Thought Leadership: Engage regularly with clients, industry partners, and the external data governance community to ensure programs remain best-in-class and to advocate for the business value of data governance in the marketplace.
