About The Position

AmTrust Financial Services (AFS) is seeking a visionary and execution-focused Director of Data Governance Stewardship. The candidate will be a member of the Data Analytics department reporting to the Vice President of Data Governance. This role is crucial for ensuring the curation (business glossaries, business processes, data quality rules, etc.) of AFS data assets are governed and maintained across the organization. This person will act as a liaison between business units and technical teams to achieve organizational goals. With minimum supervision, you will work closely with business stakeholders and be a key resource within the Data Domain Councils, promoting a community of practices within AFS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Business Administration or equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum of 5+ years leading or managing business units / teams.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of business analyst work experience.
  • Proven track record of establishing Data Stewardship processes and policies.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of Insurance business processes (claims, underwriting, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of data quality and metadata management principles.
  • Experience with master data management tools and techniques.
  • Excellent ability to explain complex data concepts, inclusive of conflict resolution, to diverse audiences and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Knowledge of agile and waterfall Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Implement enterprise-wide Data Stewardship programs aligned with AFS Data Governance Framework.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Data Stewards and Governance Analysts.
  • Ensure business rules, data definitions and the curation of critical assets are captured and maintained within the Data Governance Platform.
  • Ensure data quality profiling is performed and scorecards are captured and accessible for identified Critical Data Elements (CDE). Monitor metrics and drive initiatives to improve data accuracy, completeness and consistency.
  • Drive training programs and initiatives to improve awareness and usage of certified data assets and foster a culture of data governance throughout the organization.
  • Serve as a key liaison, partnering with business units across the organization to promote data governance best practices, gather requirements and resolve conflicts.
  • Lead in selecting, implementing and deploying tools for data cataloging, data quality monitoring, master data management and other aspects of data governance.
