About The Position

Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. Madrigal’s medication, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), is a once-daily, oral, liver-directed THR-β agonist designed to target key underlying causes of MASH. Rezdiffra is the first and only medication approved by both the FDA and European Commission for the treatment of MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2 to F3). An ongoing Phase 3 outcomes trial is evaluating Rezdiffra for the treatment of compensated MASH cirrhosis (F4c). Our success is driven by our people. Title: Director, Commercial Data Architecture Development Department: Commercial Data & Analytics Location: Conshohocken, PA or Waltham, MA (Hybrid) Reports To: Senior Director, Commercial Data & Analytics Employment Type: Full-time Job Purpose The Director, Commercial Data Architecture Development will lead key development initiatives within the scope of Madrigal’s Commercial Data Warehouse (CDW). This hands-on technical leader will serve as both architect and team lead for developers, driving the design and implementation of scalable, high performance data solutions that enable commercial reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision-making. This position plays a critical role in defining the foundation of Madrigal’s commercial data ecosystem and ensuring alignment with business needs, data governance standards, and technical best practices. The role reports to the Senior Director, Commercial Data & Analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical commercial data management, data engineering, or data architecture roles.
  • Proven track record designing and developing commercial data warehouses in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
  • Expertise with Azure Synapse, Databricks, Fabric, SQL, and Power BI integration.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical commercial datasets, including: Patient-level data (APLD): IQVIA, Komodo, PurpleLab, etc. Formulary data: MMIT Projected national data: Xponent, NSP, NPA, etc. International data: MIDAS Drug distribution data: IQVIA DDD Reference data: OneKey, OpenData Specialty pharmacy / Specialty distributor data (SP/SD)
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, performance tuning, and Medallion architecture design principles.
  • Hands-on technical development experience with the ability to function as both architect and lead developer.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within or providing consulting support for launch-stage or growth-stage biotech organizations.
  • Familiarity with data tokenization and privacy compliance (e.g., Datavant).
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks and metadata management.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical direction to development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, build, and implementation of key programs leveraging Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Synapse, and related tools.
  • Serve as architect and technical team lead, providing hands-on development and guidance to data engineers in building efficient, scalable data pipelines.
  • Define and implement data architecture frameworks aligned with Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) principles.
  • Design and oversee ETL/ELT processes for transformation of commercial datasets.
  • Maintain data quality, integrity, and governance processes across all commercial data assets.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Operations, Market Access, Analytics, and IT teams to ensure the data environment supports reporting and analytical needs.
  • Define data modeling standards, master data management approaches, and harmonization across multiple data domains.
  • Develop and maintain metadata management and documentation for the Commercial Data Warehouse.
  • Partner with internal and external technology resources to optimize performance and scalability.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance architecture design to meet evolving business and analytical requirements.
