About The Position

Crum & Forster is seeking a Claims Director & Coverage Counsel in one of the following locations: Morristown, NJ – Jersey City or remote. The Director & Coverage Counsel is responsible for outcomes on specific severe or complex claims within the Construction Defect line of business. Only candidates with specific insurance coverage experience in the CGL/Construction Defect area should apply.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate should possess 10+ years’ experience in a technical claim-handling role, specifically in the areas of CGL/Construction Defect, preferably with a Commercial Property & Casualty Company or a self-insured company in this field.
  • Legal experience at a law firm handling insurance coverage issues in the areas of CGL/Construction Defect matters will also be considered in lieu of direct claims handling experience or a combination of both.
  • BA or Juris Doctorate required.
  • Proven demonstration of creative problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficient with use of computers and Microsoft Office Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work in a cooperative manner.
  • Adapts easily to change.
  • The ability to travel is necessary.
  • Will abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with Crum & Forster’s risk management controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Major claim adjustment and coverage analysis experience and supervisory experience are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Handle declaratory judgment and recovery actions related to CGL/Construction Defect claims filed against the company.
  • Work collaboratively with adjusters, manager, director, AVP, VP and/or SVP in the Construction Defect claim group to provide coverage analysis, and review of certain coverage position letters in order to produce the best possible claim outcome.
  • Review Time Limited Demands and provide direction in responding to same, along with review of allegations of unfair claim practices, interaction with underwriting partners, and addressing claim strategies.
  • Ensure the claim strategy are appropriate and ensure appropriate and timely coverage analyses are completed and positions established.
  • Ensure proper and competent coverage attorneys are assigned to coverage claims and litigation management strategies are developed and employed.
  • Work closely with underwriting and risk engineering partners to provide feedback on policy forms and claim analysis.
