The mission of New Jersey Institute of Technology's University Advancement is to cultivate the understanding, engagement, and support of the university's key constituencies - alumni, friends, and corporate and foundation partners - in order to secure the philanthropic resources required to fulfill NJIT's educational mission. Reporting to the Senior Executive Director for Corporate & Foundation Relations and exercising a high degree of strategic thinking and creativity, the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations is responsible for identifying and cultivating corporate and foundation gift and grant opportunities, and for soliciting and stewarding corporate and foundation gifts and grants that advance the university's various institutional priorities. To this end, the Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations works closely with the Senior Executive Director and development officers, as well as faculty, volunteers, and campus-wide staff, in preparing and solicitation letters, grant proposals, program and project budgets, and gift/grant stewardship reports to corporations and foundations.

  • Supervise and mentor the Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
  • Manage a portfolio consisting of a minimum of 75-100 corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Write, or assist in the writing of, project prospectuses, proposals (including budgets), concept papers, event/meeting briefings, and progress reports to corporate and foundation prospects/partners.
  • Research and cultivate prospective funders and create and implement solicitation strategies for foundations and corporations.
  • Meet with corporate and foundation managers and executives, and maintain working, mutually beneficial relationships with them. Schedule visits for NJIT personnel with corporate and foundation program officers.
  • In consultation with the Senior Executive Director, help determine corporate engagement strategy regarding corporate clubs, matching gifts, site visits, stewardship plans, and gift/grant solicitations for corporate prospects.
  • Plan and execute campus visits by corporate and foundation prospects and prepare and circulate event briefings for all campus visits.
  • Research NJIT programs, projects, etc. for possible corporate and/or foundation support and assist university personnel in the identification of corporate and foundation grant opportunities.
  • Manage, cultivate, solicit, and steward all assigned corporate and foundation prospects and donors from planning to reporting stage, including post-award grant/gift management.
  • Collaborate with faculty, professional staff, development officers, and administrators in the appropriate stewardship of corporate- and foundation-funded programs and projects.
  • Incumbent must be willing to work extended hours as needed. Requirements could include evening and weekend meetings, special event attendance, and travel. Ability to travel both in and out-of-state (25% out of state, 75% in state).
  • Annual goals relating to number of contacts, proposals submitted, gifts/grants secured, and new prospects identified to be established in collaboration with the Senior Executive Director of CFR and Associate Vice President of Development & Alumni Relations.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive successful fundraising experience in corporate and foundation relations or other relevant development experience.
  • Exceptional writing, speaking, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to: establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and external constituents; facilitate multiple projects, make decisions, and meet deadlines; and identify problems and develop creative, timely, and efficient solutions.
  • Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Google, Raiser's Edge, FC Search, and ability to learn other programs, as need arises.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
