About The Position

Director, Continuous Improvement Position Summary: 100% on-site St. Petersburg is our primary soft gel development and manufacturing facility in North America with capacity of 18 billion capsules per year. Within the Catalent network, we offer a broad range of integrated formulation and analytical services to solve difficult development and manufacturing challenges. The Continuous Improvement & Technology group (local and global) is responsible for building expertise, establishing predictable and consistent processes, focusing on business priorities, and accelerating new technologies. The site CI&T group is charged with the responsibility of developing and imbedding the skills and behaviors that will result in a sustainable continuous improvement culture within the St. Petersburg facility with focus on standardization, simplification, and rapid adoption of best practices. The Continuous Improvement Director is responsible for driving continuous improvement (CI) efforts at the site. Reporting to the General Manager, this person is a dedicated resource responsible for operational transformation through the use of LEAN, six sigma, and other advanced problem-solving tools.

Requirements

  • BS or BA degree in Engineering, Business, Science or equivalent job experience is required.
  • 7+ years continuous improvement experience. 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience preferred with prior supervisory and management responsibilities.
  • Must have experience with advanced problem–solving (LEAN six sigma) and change-management methodologies consistent with establishing a culture of continuous improvement
  • Exemplary interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively and interact with personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Must be a results-oriented Change-Agent; a skilled facilitator adept at influence, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and project-management skills and able to work under deadlines and handle multiple and detail-oriented tasks
  • Experience applying LEAN and six sigma techniques in a manufacturing and business environment.
  • Experience with data collection and reporting and proficient in Microsoft Office Tools: Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and statistical analysis software (e.g. Minitab, JMP, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Black Belt or LEAN Master Certification desired but not mandatory
  • Demonstrable leadership experience at Catalent (including but not limited to participation in Catalent-sponsored leadership programs such as NGGL, GOLD, LEAD Now, GM Excellence, and GROW) may be considered in place of external experience

Responsibilities

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities throughout the organization by routinely studying the GEMBA, reviewing site metrics, gathering Voice of the Customer data, etc.
  • Lead, prioritize and select projects that leverage LEAN six sigma tools to drive improvements through the hierarchy of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
  • Partner with process owners and teams to build a Continuous Improvement culture by enabling data-driven problem solving and supporting projects through the full PDCA lifecycle.
  • Coach and mentor LEAN Six Sigma Project Leaders to complete projects by identifying and eliminating barriers
  • Model advanced problem-solving and LEAN Leader behavior and propagate that behavior at the local site level
  • Coordinate with Global and Regional Deployment Leaders regarding project status, issues and accomplishments
  • Network and collaborate with other CI Leaders/Managers/Directors to share best practices
  • Manage Black Belts within traditional reporting structure to include oversight of certification and career development; Design, develop, and deliver site-appropriate LEAN Six Sigma training
  • Contribute to Black Belt candidate identification and selection, offer recruiting/promotion recommendations and conduct Performance Management for the positions directly reporting to this position
