The Director of Construction Safety is a key role in developing a forward-thinking construction safety program that meets and exceeds regulatory requirements and best practices. As a subject matter expert in safety with a strong background in construction, the successful candidate will be an effective, communicative leader, dedicated to relationship building and collaboration. A successful Director of Construction Safety has a passion for driving industry change and improving consistently. They do not accept the status quo and seek to implement improved processes and approaches to construction safety management.

  • Provide support, technical expertise and leadership to the Construction and Development teams within the Region.
  • Selection, on-boarding and management of 3rd party contract EHS professionals.
  • Lead and mentor Construction Safety Managers, Regional Safety Managers and 3rd party support staff.
  • Evaluate and qualify General Contractors; this will include on-going implementation and improvement of STACK's Vendor Qualification program.
  • Coordinate with leadership from General Contractors, OFCI Vendors and other key sub-contractors to provide feedback on their EHS programs and performance, where appropriate providing suggestions and setting expectations for program improvement.
  • Hold GC leadership accountable for timely reporting, effective incident investigations, and impactful follow-through related to corrective actions for all incidents. When needed, work with them to improve their investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented broadly. Act as escalation point for high-severity incidents.
  • Support and identify opportunities for industry-leading construction safety management initiatives.
  • Be the champion for the STACK SID process, ensuring proper engagement and coordinating with key stakeholders to drive change.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with STACK project teams and various support teams throughout the Dirt to Delivery process.
  • Collaborate with Critical Operations to ensure a smooth and comprehensive project turnover.
  • Implement effective site and Contractor assessment strategies which help identify appropriate initiatives and improvements.
  • Leverage and analyze data and provide both written and verbal reports and presentations to leadership related to project and contractor safety performance.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field.
  • 12 - 15+ years' experience with EHS in the construction industry, preferably with data center construction, critical infrastructure, or large projects.
  • Proficient with the management of high-risk activities including electrical safety, excavation and ground disturbance, fall protection, mobile equipment and crane operations.
  • Experience in the evaluation, integration and management of contractors is required.
  • Must have working knowledge of NFPA 70E, 29 CFR1926, and environmental compliance.
  • A strong understanding of construction management and the role of an Owner's Safety Representative.
  • Experience implementing EHS management systems (eg. ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ANSI Z10).
  • Expert in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Experienced with the concepts of Safety in Design and able to facilitate key stakeholders including architects, general contractors and project management to proactively identify opportunities to improve safety in the design and construction phases of a project.
  • Microsoft 365 suite fluency.
  • CHST, ASP, CSP or similar safety certification, or leadership/management designations preferred.
  • You are a strong communicator, you are persuasive and clear, blending analytics with experience in decision-making.
