About The Position

Overview The Director of Construction Management leads the execution of new construction and renovation projects across owned and leased facilities, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and to quality standards. This role manages and develops Construction Managers, oversees contractor performance and field execution, and serves as the primary owner’s representative and escalation point during construction. The Director partners closely with the Senior Director of Design & Construction to ensure seamless handoff from design through construction and turnover while strengthening internal construction management capabilities. elevate critical concerns to senior leadership Oversee general contractors and key vendors, holding them accountable for safety, performance, quality, and contractual compliance Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with approved funding, scope, and timelines; proactively resolve barriers impacting delivery or campus launch readiness Coordinate with internal partners and external stakeholders to align construction activities with operational requirements and institutional priorities Support pre‑construction and design handoff, providing constructability input and ensuring a seamless transition into execution Review and manage procurement and contract activities, including RFPs, bids, drawings, specifications, change orders, and value engineering opportunities Ensure compliance with plans and standards through regular site inspections, progress checks, and quality reviews, drive timely corrective actions Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, schedules, budgets, change orders, and financial records Provide clear and timely reporting on project status, risks, timelines, and budget health to senior leadership and stakeholders Build internal CM capacity by developing team capabilities and preparing high performers for expanded roles Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (required) Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in construction management, owner’s representation, or general contracting for commercial, institutional, or educational projects (required) Three (3) years of supervisory experience (required) Knowledge base should include, managing multiple concurrent projects and leading construction or project management staff Experience overseeing contractor performance, schedules, budgets, and construction-phase risk (required) Experience supporting multi-site or programmatic capital delivery initiatives Skills Set department-level strategic direction and influences organizational priorities Anticipate complex problems and proactively addresses them Build strong relationships through insight, empathy, and presence Communicate vision and priorities with clarity and inspiration Demonstrate exceptional listening, influencing, and negotiation skills Lead enterprise-wide initiatives and large-scale presentations Create accountability frameworks to ensure sustained performance Champion the use of technology, data, and systems for innovation Make impactful decisions with minimal oversight Anticipate future trends and translate insights into strategic breakthroughs Develop people to achieve both personal and organizational goals Foster a motivating environment that drives high performance Adapt style and approach to meet evolving demands in real time Abilities Able and willing to: Communicate, think, learn, and reason Use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to process transactions, store documents, enter data, or perform assigned tasks Safely ambulate and/or maneuver when on-site at Company locations Demonstrate and utilize active listening, inductive reasoning, information ordering and category flexibility Ability to use good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are essential and multiple projects are worked simultaneously Ability to gain, understand and apply information and data as it relates essential functions of the position Ability to foster long-term relationships with stakeholders Ability to travel to worksite locations Occasionally (up to 15% of workday) Use fine and large motor skills to operate a motor vehicle Use hearing and sight (both near and far vision) to operate a motor vehicle Ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and contractor proposals Ability to negotiate, analyze, and report Work Environment Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on site at assigned company location. Employees must be able to safely ambulate when on company premises. This position is designated as Remote. Employees must meet minimum technical standards for eligibility and participation. Overnight and/or Local travel required (up to 25%)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (required)
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in construction management, owner’s representation, or general contracting for commercial, institutional, or educational projects (required)
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience (required)
