One of only five computing-focused schools among Association of American Universities (AAU) members, UC Irvine's Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences is home to the departments of Computer Science, Informatics, and Statistics. The School's mission is to lead innovation in human-centered information and computing technologies, understand their economic and social significance, and develop an educated workforce to further advance technology. With approximately 4,000 undergraduates, 600 master's students, 400 doctoral students, 100 faculty members, and 85 staff, the School is the largest computing program within the UC system and one of the largest in the nation, providing exceptional opportunities for discovery and learning in all areas of information and computer sciences. Your Role on the Team ICS Computing Support is on the leading edge of information technology, delivering advanced technology solutions that address the specialized needs of ICS researchers and instructors across the software/hardware stack and serving as a resource and avant-garde for the entire campus. Unlike traditional computing support organizations that are primarily concerned with delivering "computing as a service," the ICS Computing Support team accommodates the School's diverse and rapidly-evolving research and instructional needs (from heterogeneous high-performance computing clusters and programmable hardware accelerators, to specialized networking and secure environments for cybersecurity research), maintaining an advanced computing environment for instruction, while simultaneously providing cutting-edge resources for faculty and graduate student researchers who push technological boundaries. Its members engage at a peer level with the school’s highly technical user base on complex issues involving experimental computing systems and emerging technologies, functioning as proactive partners in research, anticipating technological trends, and providing the autonomy and tools necessary for innovation in computing while ensuring security and accessibility across the community. Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean, the Director of Computing Support is responsible for all aspects of computing in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS). In consultation with faculty and staff, plan and oversee implementation of ICS computing and network strategies to support research, instruction and administration using computing and networking resources. Function as a resource for and promoter of IT policy compliance, including the areas of data protection and cybersecurity. Assess the physical, staffing and budgetary resources necessary to support computing and networking. Ensure that available resources are efficiently used to provide IT services to meet ICS computing needs. Provide technical advice and assistance. Oversee development of requirements, data system design, and internal network architecture. Determine requirements and design computer programs to facilitate advanced capabilities for School administration and instruction. Incumbent serves as ICS’s Unit Information Security Lead (UISL) and as primary liaison with UC Irvine’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) and other campus computing groups. Direct the ICS computing support team and coordinate efforts of all campus units supporting the School’s IT environment.
