About The Position

The IYRS School of Technology & Trades is seeking a Director to lead its Composites & Advanced Technologies unit. This person will be charged with transforming, developing, and leading a new generation program. This will include building a new strategic plan for an advanced composites program equipped with mechanical and chemical testing, new-generation layup equipment, robotics, and curing tools such that IYRS students can support the rapidly growing complexities of the Rhode Island, New England, National, and Global composites industry. The Composites & Advanced Technologies Director will lead this academic area as a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) and provide direction for future growth. The Director will utilize their comprehensive understanding of the composites industry as well as the ability to build relationships with suppliers and manufacturers across the industry to continue building IYRS’s composites technology program into a nationally recognized composites training institution. This full-time, 12-month position is located in Newport, RI and the current curriculum is based on a 9 ½ month school year (Sept-June).

Requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of the composites industry.
  • Ability to build relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Mechanical aptitude with a background or knowledge in chemistry.
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development.
  • Comfortable on the composites shop manufacturing floor.

Responsibilities

  • Transform, develop, and lead a new generation composites program.
  • Build a strategic plan for an advanced composites program.
  • Oversee the setup of a comprehensive composites workshop, including specification and purchase of equipment.
  • Develop course lesson plans and implement new educational course objectives.
  • Deliver learning materials through various formats including traditional classroom delivery, hands-on training, and laboratory/workshop delivery.
  • Manage the program’s resources and performance in line with the IYRS strategic plan.
  • Demonstrate skills associated with the training elements of the program on the composites shop manufacturing floor.
  • Refine the curriculum while delivering knowledge-based information and practical hands-on training.
