The American Express Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) function provides second-line policy, framework, oversight, and control solutions to meet the Company’s legal, regulatory and risk management mandates in connection with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Terrorism Financing (CTF), Sanctions, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC). The GFCC portfolio comprises all aspects of the Company’s first and second-line financial crime risk management (FCRM) activities, including all lines of businesses in the United States and both proprietary and non-proprietary global markets. Reporting to the Vice President, Governance (Committee and Issues Oversight), the Director of Issues Management leads oversight of financial crime–related issues, remediation activities, and risk events across the GFCC program. This role ensures disciplined issue management, root cause analysis, remediation, and risk-based reporting aligned with enterprise standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in issue management, operational risk, or financial crime compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with root cause analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience overseeing risk, issue, or remediation tracking tools and associated controls preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GFCC oversight of issue management for the FCRM program, including issues, operational risk events, and remediation plans.
  • Manage the tool used to collate all financial crime–related issues, events, and remediations, including ingestion of data from enterprise sources, validation of data completeness and accuracy, implementation of controls to ensure data integrity, and ongoing enhancement of the tool and its associated controls.
  • Support the GFCC Issue Management Supervisory Forum (IMSF) to identify and escalate emerging and systemic risks.
  • Monitor remediation progress, challenge timelines and action plans, and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Ensure issues are appropriately identified, documented, risk-rated, and managed in accordance with enterprise issue management standards.
  • Produce risk-focused dashboards and executive reporting for senior management and governance forums.
  • Partner with Audit, Exam, and Committee Governance teams to ensure alignment of issue reporting and governance.
  • Identify trends and root causes to support control enhancements and continuous improvement.
