About The Position

We’re looking for an experienced commercial counsel to join our Commercial Legal team! This is a great opportunity to join a growing Commercial Legal team and support Atlassian’s most critical enterprise transformations. You will closely partner with our Sales team to get critical deals done with enterprise customers in the U.S. and Canada. This is a great opportunity to join a growing Commercial Legal team and support key customer transactions for Atlassian. This is a remote position, in which you will liaise directly with Sales teams and customers based in the United States. Working at Atlassian Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.

Requirements

  • You take ownership, roll up your sleeves, and get things done, while managing risk.
  • You work collaboratively and develop positive relationships with business stakeholders to strengthen the connection between our team and the business - with a sense of humor and resiliency, under tight deadlines, and while managing multiple priorities.
  • You bring empathy and understanding to your conversations with customers, seeking to find a path forward that balances company risk and customer needs.
  • You effectively navigate a decentralized and complex organization spread around the globe.
  • You have a strong understanding of software, cloud services and generative AI, associated business models, and technology industry trends.
  • You think creatively beyond the “legal” box to generate possible solutions and options for the business, clearly articulating risk-based recommendations.
  • You effectively communicate with the business and customers to help them understand and follow the rules and parameters imposed by laws.
  • Extensive experience negotiating outbound SaaS contracts is a must.
  • Ability to handle data protection, cybersecurity and revenue recognition issues in connection with commercial contracts.
  • Passion for understanding our customers, products, culture, and business model.
  • Excellent business judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly with a variety of teams.
  • Strong presentation skills, especially with internal business leaders.
  • Willingness to handle new areas of responsibility.
  • Qualified to practice law in your local jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate enterprise cloud agreements for Atlassian’s products and services. In doing so, you’ll partner with Sales and other Atlassians to drive customer deals to execution.
  • Provide pragmatic, business-minded guidance on customer requests and contract-related issues. We’re not looking for academic analysis!
  • Develop support materials and provide trainings to educate our Sales teams on contract terms and other legal issues.
  • Assist with special projects as needed, including projects focused on scaling legal processes.
  • Lead special projects to scale the Legal and Sales functions, and bring a legal lens to other critical cross-functional projects across the quote-to-cash process.
  • Drive strategic customer deals to execution by partnering with Sales and other Atlassians (including in our Privacy, Trust, Finance and Product teams).
  • Provide pragmatic, business-minded guidance on customer and contract-related issues. We’re not looking for academic analysis!
