About The Position

The Director of Commercial Finance at GroupM is responsible for establishing themselves as a finance subject matter expert for a diverse portfolio of clients. This role requires working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment to provide financial rigor and strategic insights that influence business decisions affecting both the client portfolio and Wavemaker. The director will maintain accountability for forecasting, accounting, and recording client billings and revenue in accordance with Wavemaker policies and GAAP. They will lead the development and negotiation of client contracts and compensation agreements, ensuring key contractual requirements are met, and serve as the primary contact with the legal team during negotiations. Additionally, the director will partner with client leads to maintain a deep understanding of client business models and advise on issues impacting the business. They will manage global client relationships, develop and motivate staff, and work closely with the GroupM Controllers department to ensure accurate financial reporting. The role also involves interfacing with finance and procurement contacts at clients and supporting the new business team with RFP responses and pricing.

Requirements

  • BS or MBA in Finance or Accounting.
  • 10+ Years' experience in Finance or Accounting.
  • Experience working through contract negotiations.
  • Strong knowledge of Finance and Accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Excel for complex data analysis.
  • Experience working within a matrix environment supporting multiple business partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Clear and succinct communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Establish role as Finance subject matter expert for a portfolio of clients.
  • Provide financial rigor and strategic insight around business decisions.
  • Maintain accountability for proper forecasting, accounting, and recording of client Billings and Revenue.
  • Lead the development and negotiation of Client contracts and compensation agreements.
  • Serve as key point of contact with Legal team during contract negotiations.
  • Partner with client leads to maintain expert knowledge of client's business models.
  • Advise business partners and Wavemaker Finance Leadership on client portfolio issues.
  • Manage and coordinate global client relationships with other Wavemaker offices.
  • Develop, train, and motivate staff while holding them accountable for results.
  • Partner closely with GroupM Controllers department for accurate financial reporting.
  • Document, follow up on, and close out budgeting, billing, invoicing, or payment issues.
  • Interface with Finance and Procurement contacts at clients and Wavemaker teams.
  • Frequent meetings with Group Director, Client Finance and CFO.
  • Partner with Wavemaker company GroupM for prompt cash collection.
  • Support the new business team with RFP responses and pricing.
