Director - Coding
About The Position
The following statements are intended to describe the major elements and requirements of the position and should not be taken as an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required of individuals assigned to this job. The Director of Coding is responsible for coordinating, delivering and providing guidance to Coding services across the enterprise. The Director of Coding is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, training, educating and influencing coding activities including various systems’ implementation programs while maintaining continuous quality improvement and coding compliance. He/She will effectively work, interact and communicate the corporate coding compliance and improvement measures with various stakeholders. The Director of Coding works collaboratively with the Vice President, Respective Business Office Directors or Assignees, Directors of Health Information Management, and other relevant leadership team members in supplementing and assisting the department’s functions pertaining to Coding. The Director of Coding has overall responsibility in keeping the DNFB within expected target(s) across the enterprise and takes steps proactively to ensure that the organization’s cashflow is not excessively impacted because of very high DNFBs. He/She will perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Medical Graduate, licensed Physician Assistant or Nursing Graduate.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10 codes, CPT codes, payment methodologies and denials processes
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding in an acute care setting
- 5+ years of clinical experience in acute care setting.
- Prior experience of five (5) years in leadership role
- Excellent written, verbal communication and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer experience required.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in related field
- Computer data entry with 10-key preferred, with accurate typing speed of 35 wpm preferred
Responsibilities
