JOB DESCRIPTION The Director of Coding Quality is responsible for leading coding quality assurance (QA) specialists (auditors) that provide auditing of internal coders. Director must have the ability to accurately audit and code (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, Level I & II modifiers) all of the following service types: Facility Inpatient Emergency Room Outpatient surgery Observation Ancillary Recurring therapy Clinic Professional and billing/coding edit resolution. Director will be working with multiple facilities specific, state billing and coding guidelines as well as various Medicare Administrative Contractors nation-wide. Director collaborates with the Coding Department on coding audits and training.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of production coding experience.
  • This should include hospital and/or physician practice with a minimum of five (5) years’ professional coding experience in physician practices.
  • Three to five (5) years management experience
  • Training and mentoring experience
  • Must have one of the following Coding Certifications: Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC); Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). RHIT or RHIA with coding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Employee time management
  • Maintaining employee daily time sheets per pay period per month
  • Time allocations per project, reviewing and approving PTO requests
  • Overseeing that audits are covered during PTO dates.
  • Responsible for team member annual evaluations and career tracking.
  • Directs/Manages plans, organizes, monitors and evaluates the work of the coding QA team to ensure effective and efficient operations and compliance with established standards, rules and regulations.
  • Collaborates with the coding leaders to develop, implement and assess appropriate coding education ensuring high quality coding accuracy.
  • Provides direction for all coding activities, audits, education, productivity standards and quality standards to improve data and coding quality.
  • Responsible for hiring, orientation, and training of coding quality specialists. Upholds PDA processes for compliance, performance, conduct and attendance.
  • Maintains and monitors department statistics related to work volumes, productivity, accuracy and data quality.
  • Evaluates performance and carries out improvement activities.
  • Completes monthly coding audit tracker for domestic and global coders.
  • Demonstrates continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignments with the overall annual performance improvement targets.
