About The Position

The Director of Clinical Risk Management provides operational and clinical leadership to a comprehensive program of clinical risk management, patient safety, and high reliability focused on minimizing the occurrence of adverse events and reducing risk from such events. This role involves working with health system leadership to develop an effective clinical risk management infrastructure, promoting early reporting of adverse events, investigating incidents, and implementing system improvements to mitigate the risk of recurrence. The Director will also collaborate with claims risk management on early disclosure of events to patients and families as appropriate, standardize and implement policies and procedures related to clinical risk management across the health system, and participate in system-wide data collection for event reporting and management. Additionally, the Director will design and implement educational programs to support these initiatives and ensure compliance with applicable laws and professional standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years minimum experience in a clinical setting with five (5) of the ten (10) years in Risk Management, Patient Safety, or Quality.
  • Appropriate clinical license based on training.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) required.
  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement a system-wide clinical risk management program in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Develop and implement standardized policies, procedures, and practice standards related to clinical risk management.
  • Oversee the triage, investigation, and action plans for clinical adverse events reported to risk management.
  • Supervise the analysis and trending of organizational adverse events.
  • Maintain communication with executive leadership, hospital leadership, and hospital risk departments on clinical risk management programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of the Office of General Counsel and the Office of Patient Experience.
  • Define and lead resource needs and allocation to manage performance.
  • Design and implement an enterprise-wide educational program on health care risk management, patient safety, and safety culture.
