About The Position

The Director is a key leadership position within the Quality and Safety Institute (QSI) at Rochester Regional Health. Working under the direction of the Vice President, Patient Safety Officer, and in partnership to other leaders across RRH, this role supports the Quality and Safety strategic pillar to provide the highest quality of care, free from preventable harm with best in-class service at the lowest cost. This role is responsible for the implementation and oversight of clinical risk management at Rochester Regional Health (RRH). The Director will utilize knowledge of clinical workflows, clinical risk management principles and patient safety best practices to provide leadership in improving and achieving program outcomes.

Requirements

  • Progressive experience in Risk Management, Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Health Information or other clinical or health care related preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of regulations, clinical risk management methodologies, and accreditation standards (e.g., NYS, DNV, CMS).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply implementation science methodologies (Safety culture, human factors, design thinking, root cause analysis, qualitative analytics and implementing risk mitigation strategies).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly proficient in analytical and data management and interpretation skills.

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare quality and patient safety (or other relevant experience), with at least 2 years in a leadership role (or other relevant experience) required.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) at the time of hire or to be completed within 2 years of hire date.
  • For those with a BSN; valid NYS Registered Nurse License is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in patient safety (e.g., CPPS) or quality improvement (e.g., CPHQ) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic direction and oversight for clinical risk management initiatives and programs throughout RRH.
  • Develops and leads new programs to increase involvement of front-line team members and all care team members in clinical unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Responsible for program wide coordination and standardization in collaboration with RRH Quality Safety Institute.
  • Collaborates with Quality and/or clinical departments to develop dashboards and metrics for tracking and trending. Provide reports/presentations to RRH leadership and conducts data analysis as needed.
  • Aligns resources to drive strategic initiatives; Rely on data, education literature, and operational expertise in the development of goals and strategies to achieve strategic plan outcomes.
  • Oversees MedIQ program implementation.
  • Provides direction and supervision to RRH and entity Clinical Risk Managers.
  • Collaborates with Hospital, Medical, Nursing and other Leadership across the RRH system and community to develop an infrastructure that focuses on improving patient outcomes and ensuring best clinical practices.
  • Oversees and participates in the process for investigation and follow up of significant events, including the root cause analysis process.
  • Oversees and facilitates root-cause analysis reviews for sentinel events; provides support to clinical departments and units, specifically providing improvement teams with the necessary tools and approaches to implement measures of enterprise risk and safety.
  • Reviews clinical and facility related events and work collaboratively with medical staff, quality and safety and patient advocate to investigate and identify actual or potential claims.
  • Ensures that any corrective or preventative actions are thorough, appropriate, and fully implemented to reduce risk and improve patient safety.
  • Ensures compliance with state and regulatory requirements for event reporting. This includes but is not limited to NYPORTS, FDA, MedSun.
  • Offers guidance, education, and feedback to staff regarding program improvement, process change and needs, and techniques.
  • Fosters the use of performance improvement techniques to achieve optimum results.
  • Utilizes data from various sources to identify opportunities to continuously improve patient quality and safety outcomes holds) are conducted.
  • Reviews event reports to identify risk and triage to appropriate Legal Risk Management leader.
  • Leads proactive risk assessments.
  • Ensure entities understand how to recognize and receive necessary clinical risk management support to navigate high risk care delivery situations.
  • Reports to and seeks counsel from Enterprise Risk Management attorney for matters identified that create risk of organizational exposure.
  • Provides consultation to clinical departments about high exposure risk clinical situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
