The primary purpose of this position is to demonstrate expertise in educating students with a prior faculty appointment or other responsible professional position related to an academic area of specialization contained within the Health Professions Division. Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service. Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service. Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.
  • Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.
  • Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).
  • Professional registry (ARDMS, CCI, or equivalent) in a minimum of one area of sonography specialization: adult cardiac, vascular, or other applicable registry.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five (5) years of experience and/or training in the applicable specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a clinical, research, academic health care, medical, or health professions educational environment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches within the Sonography Department Cardiovascular Sonography (CVS) Program.
  • Continually reviews and manages the status of all training sites utilized for the clinical curriculum, including recruitment and evaluation of new training sites, and travels as necessary for clinical site visits.
  • Orients new faculty members and adjunct faculty in their support of clinical-year activities.
  • Provides critical liaison with appropriate offices, department, and external agencies involved in medical and allied health education.
  • Assists the Program Director with budget preparation and management, as well as problem-solving activities related to clinical-year instruction and activities.
  • Assists the Program Director in preparing appropriate reports and necessary self-studies related to program accreditation.
  • Composes, edits, reviews, and approves learning objectives and test items including the use of registry review materials and/or software or other systems.
  • Monitors test administration and results, attainment of clinical competencies, and oversees all remediation activities as required, including coordination with the Committee on Student Progress (CSP) deliberations.
  • Assists the Program Director in evaluating teaching and learning effectiveness of the clinical-year curriculum.
  • Reviews educational literature and learning media to keep abreast of new teaching / learning strategies.
  • Counsels students with academic and/or personal problems, referring to appropriate personnel or agencies as necessary and in a timely manner.
  • Provides comprehensive updates and progress reports of clinical curriculum activities at faculty and staff meetings.
  • Serves on Department and Program committees as necessary and as appointed by the Program Director, as well as appropriate College and University committees.
  • Maintains and ensures students clinical evaluation performance by monitoring clinical preceptor's feedback of the students.
  • In coordination with the Program Director and legal team, secures and maintains active affiliation agreements with clinical training sites including compliance with medical liability, HRSA, HIPPA etc. regulations.
  • Provides guidance and direction to program faculty and staff involved in the coordination, support, and instruction of the clinical curriculum.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
