The Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University (the Center) seeks a Director, of Civic Engagement to manage the Center's robust portfolio of civic engagement programs that draw on the insights and skills of residents to power better local solutions for cities and their residents. With the support of grants, technical assistance, and other resources, the Center's Civic Engagement Practice helps cities partner with residents and community members to design and implement projects that solve important public problems. Working closely with and under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Center, and in collaboration with other Center leadership and staff, the Director of Civic Engagement leads a team of staff to design and deliver programs focused on the ways in which residents contribute to the design, development, and delivery of new services and policy approaches in local governments around the world. The Director must have a forward-thinking mindset and the vision to deliver impactful programs, both expanding on the legacy of existing initiatives and designing new ones. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong point of view on the opportunity to reimagine the role and opportunities of local governments, what it means to create meaningful civic engagement, and the capacity for transformational resident-driven innovation. The first of its kind in the world, the Center aims to advance the field of public sector innovation by marrying cutting-edge practice with world class research in order to transform the culture of government, deliver exceptional results for residents, and inspire trust in public service.
