About The Position

Monash University is looking for a Director, China Engagement to join the Vice President (International Engagement) portfolio to deliver on the University’s China Plan initiatives. In this role, you will lead a high-performing team and oversee initiatives that build and deliver on the university’s transnational education (TNE) objectives, partnerships with Chinese institutions, build China engagement awareness across the Monash Group, and facilitate the Monash community’s collaboration with industry, government, and alumni. You will also play a key role in supporting Monash Suzhou, and delivering broader International Portfolio initiatives that advance the University’s international goals. You will work closely with various university portfolios, faculties, international campuses, and senior leaders across Monash to deliver on targets, implement plans, enhance governance, process efficiencies and effectiveness, and ensure sustainable outcomes are aligned with the University’s international engagement goals. This is a high-impact role with responsibility for strategic planning, operational oversight, targets delivery, and managing budgets and a high performing team.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership in international higher education, with deep expertise in China and transnational education.
  • Strong track record in strategy development, portfolio planning, overseeing operations, and delivering complex initiatives that meet or exceed KPIs.
  • In-depth knowledge of Chinese government policies, market dynamics, and higher education trends to advise senior stakeholders.
  • Expertise in building executive-level relationships, fostering collaboration, and navigating complex regulatory and governance environments.
  • Decisive, results-oriented leadership with experience managing budgets, operational priorities, and high-performing teams.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in face-paced environments.
  • Fluency in Mandarin, with outstanding communication, negotiation, and influencing skills to drive strategic objectives across China.
