Director, Childcare

YMCA of Metropolitan Los AngelesDowney, CA
2d$22 - $22Onsite

About The Position

At the YMCA, we know it takes a village to raise a child-and our before and after school programs are an essential part of that village. As a Child Care Site Director, you'll lead a licensed, high-quality program that supports youth, engages families, and fosters strong school partnerships. In this leadership role, you'll manage a school-based site that delivers a well-rounded experience for TK-5th grade students (some sites serve up to 6th grade). Your responsibilities include daily program operations, staff supervision, academic and enrichment programming, parent engagement, and collaboration with school administrators and community stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet California Title 22 Site Director qualifications for school-age programs. This includes either:
  • Option 1: 12 semester units in ECE or CD (6 of which may be in recreation, human services, or humanities) plus 3 units in administration/staff relations.
  • Option 2: AA or BA with at least 3 units in ECE/CD and 3 units in administration/staff relations.
  • At least 4 years of experience supervising a licensed child care center.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and school-age children in a group setting.
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Physical exam and TB clearance; proof of MMR and TDAP immunizations.
  • Within 7 days of hire, candidates must provide proof of TDAP and MMR vaccinations and/or immunity.
  • Hired candidates are screened through the YMCA by the FBI and California Department of Justice; these government agencies make the final determination as to whether or not a candidate is eligible to work with minor children in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead a comprehensive before and after school program that includes academics, enrichment, STEAM, physical activity, and family engagement.
  • Ensure full compliance with California Title 22 licensing regulations.
  • Supervise and coach program staff, providing training, feedback, and ongoing development.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and risk management standards at all times.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with children, families, school partners, and community organizations.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as snack and supply orders, daily reports, and licensing documentation.
  • Assist with budgeting, onboarding, and staff scheduling.
  • Use positive discipline and supervision strategies aligned with YMCA policies.
  • Support YMCA fundraising events, family nights, and staff trainings throughout the year.

Benefits

  • To ease the onboarding experience, hired candidates will be provided access to complete a mandatory TB Test clearance and Health Screening, at no cost, prior to their first scheduled shift.
  • The YMCA also provides all new hires with access to paid CPR/First Aid certification training, at no cost, to be completed within 60 days of hire.
