About The Position

The Sheldon B. Lubar College of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications for a Director, Certificate in Financial Planning, to begin on August 24, 2026. Candidate may start in July to prepare prior to the start of the fall semester. Candidate to be appointed at the level of Teaching Professor, Associate, or Assistant, based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 9-month position. The primary responsibilities in this position will be to teach finance courses and serve as the Director of the Certificate in Financial Planning. The role will involve teaching a 3-course load (9 credit hours) for the fall and spring semesters with at least 3 credit hours in the financial planning certificate, recruiting and placement of students, working with a board of advisors, managing the resources and budget, managing experiential learning projects, and working on other matters for the Certificate in Financial Planning and maintaining the CFP Board registered status of the certificate. If the candidate does not have a CFP® certification or CFA charter, then the candidate will be encouraged to obtain one of these designations.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in business or a related discipline from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Meet the qualifications to be director of a CFP Board registered program, which include being a CFP® professional, or holding a graduate degree in financial planning or a related discipline from a regionally accredited college or university, or holding a graduate degree related to education or adult education, or being the head of the continuing/professional education department of the college university, or meeting one of the eligibility requirements for Accelerated Path.
  • The Accelerated Path to the CFP® certification requires the person to be a CFA charterholder (preferred), or CPA, or CHFC, or CLU, or licensed attorney, or doctor of business administration, or PhD in financial planning (preferred), finance, business administration, or economics, or CFP certification from outside the US (from the Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd (FPSB) affiliate located in the territory of residence).

Nice To Haves

  • Practical experience in the field of financial planning or investments.
  • Prior experience teaching.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced in teaching evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
