Director, Ceded Reinsurance (Facultative)

FortegraJacksonville, FL

About The Position

We are seeking a seasoned facultative reinsurance professional—ideally someone currently in a broking role—who is ready to transition to the buyer side and play a strategic role in shaping a sophisticated, multi-line reinsurance portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of underwriting, actuarial, capital management, and external markets, and is ideal for a broker who understands how the market thinks and wants to be closer to portfolio construction, risk optimization, and long-term strategy rather than transactional placement alone. This individual will be responsible for structuring, negotiating, and managing facultative placements across specialty lines, while helping evolve how we deploy reinsurance as a capital and risk-management tool.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in facultative reinsurance, ideally from a broking background.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Strong technical understanding of facultative structures, wordings, pricing dynamics, and market appetite.
  • Experience placing complex or specialty risks across multiple reinsurers.
  • Ready to transition from broker to strategic buyer—thinking in terms of portfolio outcomes, not just deal execution.
  • Commercially savvy, with strong negotiation skills and credibility with senior reinsurers.
  • Analytical and comfortable engaging with actuarial, modeling, and capital concepts (you don’t need to be an actuary—but you need to speak the language).
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.

Nice To Haves

  • ARe, CPCU, ARM, or similar designation a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead facultative reinsurance placements across multiple specialty lines (property, casualty, specialty programs).
  • Design and execute placement strategies aligned with risk appetite, portfolio objectives, and capital considerations.
  • Evaluate when to deploy facultative solutions versus treaty, quota share, or alternative structures.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, and structure directly with global reinsurers.
  • Partner closely with underwriting, actuarial, and catastrophe modeling teams to assess risk, structure coverage, and optimize net retention.
  • Review submissions and underwriting data with a buyer’s lens—focusing on risk quality, volatility, and portfolio impact.
  • Support portfolio optimization initiatives and efficient-frontier style analysis of reinsurance solutions.
  • Leverage existing broker-side relationships to engage reinsurers effectively and credibly.
  • Manage ongoing reinsurer relationships, performance reviews, and strategic dialogues.
  • Work collaboratively with external brokers while maintaining clear ownership of buyer-side objectives.
  • Support internal approval processes, documentation, and ongoing contract management.
  • Ensure placements align with internal underwriting guidelines, risk tolerances, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of reinsurance processes, analytics, and reporting.

Benefits

  • Full benefit package including medical, dental, life, vision, company paid short/long term disability, 401(k), tuition assistance and more.
