About The Position

The Director, Card Business Analytics plays a critical leadership role in driving profitable growth, optimizing credit performance, and advancing analytical rigor across Merrick Bank’s credit card business – delivering direct and meaningful impact on the P&L. This role contributes to a wide spectrum of programs and workstreams across the customer lifecycle, including acquisitions, credit line management, portfolio monitoring, valuations, and more. You will partner closely with cross‑functional teams including Modeling, Finance, Marketing, Legal, and Compliance to influence strategy, guide decision-making, and shape portfolio direction. This position requires strong quantitative expertise, strategic foresight, and the ability to translate insights into high‑impact business decisions that support both near‑term goals and long-term portfolio health. As a Director on this team, you’ll contribute to data-driven solutions to core business problems leveraging cutting-edge analytics, with expertise in Python, SQL, and Microsoft Excel/VBA along with knowledge of PowerBI or Tableau. Ideally, the qualified candidate will work at the following location(s): Wilmington, DE, or South Jordan, UT. A hybrid work model or fully remote model can be considered based on hiring manager decision and priorities of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an analytical or quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Business Intelligence, Finance, or Engineering is required.
  • Four (4) years’+ experience (with a Master’s degree) or five (5)+ years’ experience (with Bachelor’s degree) in data analytics, strategy execution, decision engine, cloud data, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Profound expertise in Python, SQL, and Microsoft Excel/VBA.
  • Proficiency with PowerBI, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools like Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and working hands-on with large analytical datasets to perform complex analyses.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strengths with problem-solving, critical thinking, detail-orientation, and organization.
  • Advanced quantitative skills, including knowledge of probability, statistical inference, and regression analysis principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in an analytical or quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Business Intelligence, Finance, or Engineering is preferred.
  • Previous experience in financial services, consulting, or corporate strategy is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the design and optimization of integrated credit strategies, including credit line management, acquisition policies, and product frameworks to balance growth and risk.
  • Drives innovation in valuation methodologies, decision frameworks, analytics, and modeling integration to improve portfolio performance and profitability.
  • Manages valuation exercises across programs such as credit line increases and new account acquisitions, ensuring assumptions and economics are accurate and optimized.
  • Oversees periodic model monitoring and recommends valuation changes, tracking outcomes to ensure value creation.
  • Designs, launches, and monitors A/B and multivariate tests that enhance credit strategies and identify new growth opportunities.
  • Develops the test inventory, creates iterative testing roadmaps, and institutionalizes learnings across teams.
  • Maintains and enhances performance monitoring suites, leads reporting forums, and develops insights to inform strategy updates.
  • Leads ongoing monitoring of strategic initiatives to ensure expected results and early identification of emerging risks.
  • Partners with channel owners, Data Science/Modeling, Finance, and other teams to ensure strategic alignment and high‑quality execution.
  • Socializes strategies, influences business decisions, and presents insights and recommendations to senior leadership and executives.
  • Provides strategic direction to team members and mentors junior talent to raise analytical rigor.
  • Serves as a champion of change, communicating effectively and leading from the front in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Compliance with Laws & Regulations: Responsible for complying with all of the Bank’s internal control policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
  • Responsible for communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts.
