About The Position

Capital Farm Credit is the largest rural lending cooperative in Texas, serving 192 counties through nearly 70 credit offices. With over $12 billion in assets and more than 600 team members, we provide essential financial services to farmers, ranchers, rural homeowners, and agribusinesses. As part of the nationwide Farm Credit System, we are dedicated to supporting rural communities and agriculture. Responsible for managing and monitoring a portfolio of large corporate finance agribusiness, energy, and telecom banking relationships, including a significant number of syndicated and purchased participations. Works closely and collaborates with credit administration, legal, loan operations, relationship managers, and capital markets teams to develop prudent credit strategies that meet customer needs while adhering to the Association’s credit policies and guidelines. Assesses credit risk of portfolio through continuous monitoring of financial trends, understanding of industry drivers and competitive landscape through peer analysis, provides sound and cogent risk mitigations. Prepares and assists with the credit memorandum and leads discussions of recommendations to credit administration in order to make sound credit decisions. Primary responsible for purchased and sold capital market transactions. Incumbent will have complete oversight on their portfolio with increased signing authority and responsibility on both purchased and sold accounts including, working with agents, borrowers, and lender groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics, finance, business administration or other related business field or commensurate experience.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of credit underwriting, relationship management, capital markets or related experience in the financial services industry including knowledge in the analysis and structuring of complex credit facilities and dealing with large loans.
  • Strong accounting and credit background, interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with external customers of the Association and Senior Management.
  • Experienced in working with client management/owners and financial institutions.
  • Highly competent in structuring, evaluating, and negotiating various types of senior credit facilities.
  • Ability to manage large complex loans (above delegated authorities) and loan participations/syndications and be competent in analyzing direct loan/correspondent lending relationships.
  • Experience in managing a large loan portfolio, working with other lenders and analyst, marketing and generating new loan volume, and making strategic decisions and recommendations about direction of a loan portfolio.
  • This position requires skills and knowledge of how financial institutions operate, development of new business and maintenance of existing business (purchase participations).
  • Development of loan syndications/participations, sales strategies, and execution thereof, extension of complex credit facilities, financial analysis.
  • Ability to operate various loan analysis software programs, accounting standards (accrual and cash), legal aspects of extending credit, credit policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial credit analysis (including projections), collateral analysis, appraisal standards and repayment performance in the areas of agriculture/agribusiness loans, energy loans, telecommunications loans, project finance loans, mortgage loans and commercial/operating credits.
  • Ability to accurately identify, measure and manage all risks involved with extending credit to these enterprises via direct, loan participations and/or syndications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and have an understanding of credit analysis software.
  • A high level of independence is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Proposes strategic recommendations to managing director and senior directors about the direction of the loan portfolio under management including new business/growth opportunities.
  • Primarily responsible for managing and monitoring a portfolio of existing capital markets and agribusiness, energy, and telecommunication accounts, including the processing of customer requests, waivers, and amendments in order to support the Association’s value proposition while adhering to high credit quality standards.
  • Effectively manages originated loan syndications/participations including development of market-based pricing and structuring, marketing, and servicing memoranda, legal/loan documentation negotiation, and monitoring.
  • Monitors existing portfolio for covenant compliance, industry trends, financial performance, in order to uphold superior credit quality standards.
  • Assists the credit analysts and regularly drafts a written credit report that presents a thorough understanding of the customer requests along with a concise and complete understanding of the credit risks and risk assessment to the credit approval group.
  • Effectively coordinates with credit analysts, credit administration, loan operations, capital markets, and legal to process customer requests, waivers, and amendments.
  • Establishes strong customer relationships within the portfolio accounts as the key point of contact (and provides continuity for existing customers) to include the key point of contact on directly originated loan syndications/participations.
  • Acts as the primary internal point of contact that leads credit presentations to credit/risk management committees for purchased loans. Acts as the lead capital markets representative discussing syndication strategies during credit presentations to credit/risk management committees.
  • Coordinates, evaluates, and communicates risk ratings, loss given defaults, and hold strategies.
  • Seeks to expand and/or develop strategies to deepen customer relationships with ancillary business including but not limited to leasing, cash management, and capital markets.
  • Presents to borrowers and lender groups on directly originated loan syndications/participation sales as well as credit package recommendations to credit committees.
  • Develops strong credit presentations and ability to close loans by working with other associates with financial statement analysis and negotiation of terms and conditions of such credits.
  • A leader in making recommendations for improvements of credit function within Capital Markets, including new technology, resources, etc. needed to perform at a high level.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of key ratio analysis, and the relationship of those ratios on the various financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, etc.).
  • Keeps abreast of current market-based syndication/participation loan transactions and provides input into directly originated loans regarding appropriate structure, pricing, underwriting of loans that will potentially be sold to other lenders.
  • Provides input to department’s annual business plan and projected needs in the future.
  • Assists in the development and closing of complex loans by assisting other associations with analysis and negotiation of such credits.
  • Helps in development of loan participation and correspondent banking relationships with other lenders.
  • Assists other bank personnel, and often leads, in completing coordinated projects as assigned.
  • Serves as a trainer/mentor to develop credit skills of Capital Markets personnel, as required by MAC.
