GenentechSouth San Francisco, CA
84d$168,100 - $312,300

About The Position

Genentech is looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Director of Campus Landscape Planning to lead and steward the ongoing evolution of our South San Francisco campus's landscape and public realm as we undertake a major redevelopment of the site. This key individual will serve as the primary owner's representative to our campus landscape architecture firm while ensuring that the goals of our Campus Vision Plan are implemented with excellence and adapted to meet future needs. As part of the broader Site Services Campus Development team, the Campus Landscape Planning Director will oversee the integration of landscape design with urban planning, placemaking, environmental sustainability, and the enhancement of a vibrant campus experience. In addition to managing the overall landscape vision, the role will also ensure its application to individual campus development projects and, over time, take responsibility for directing Project Managers during the implementation of specific landscape projects, from design through construction. The role reports to the Senior Director of Site Planning and Entitlements, who is responsible for long-range planning and design direction for the South San Francisco campus. The role will also be closely and progressively integrated with the Site Development team, responsible for coordination of site-wide projects (infrastructure, utilities, parking, landscape, logistics, etc.), particularly as the focus moves from strategy to implementation.

  • Experience working as an owner's representative—or similar client-facing leadership role—strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in landscape sustainability strategies, including rainwater management, native plantings, habitat creation, and energy-efficient design.
  • Understanding of public art coordination and its integration within broader design contexts.
  • Exceptional project management and organization skills, with an ability to balance strategic leadership with detailed project implementation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, capable of influencing, managing, and guiding cross-functional teams of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creativity in problem-solving, innovation, and adaptability balanced with analytical, data-driven thinking.

  • Proactive and detail-oriented in managing design standards from planning through construction.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Genentech's representative to the campus landscape architecture firm, setting strategic direction for landscape, streetscape, and public realm design across the campus.
  • Lead the evolution of the high-level landscape master plan established in the Campus Vision Plan (CVP), ensuring it adapts to new priorities, updated objectives, and additional site-specific considerations.
  • Provide consistent design guidelines and priorities that ensure cohesive, high-quality outcomes, enhancing the campus environment and employee experience.
  • Oversee the practical application of the master landscape strategy to individual campus development projects.

  • Manage the full lifecycle of landscape projects, ensuring that the design, planning, and construction phases adhere to approved objectives and timelines.
  • Lead reviews of design documentation, construction plans, and on-site execution to maintain quality standards and alignment with the master plan.
  • Ensure landscape strategies actively support and advance Genentech's sustainability goals, with an emphasis on water conservation, biodiversity, green infrastructure, and ecosystem health.
  • Advocate for climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable design solutions, promoting best practices in green landscape development.
