About The Position

Associate Tools is Walmart’s portfolio of in store digital and hardware capabilities that power how associates receive, stock, pick, verify, and manage inventory and workflows in stores. The portfolio spans mobile apps, devices, RFID, location-based capabilities, and operational tooling, all designed to simplify work, improve accuracy, and unlock productivity at scale. The Business Strategy function operates as the connective tissue across Product, Engineering, Operations, and the Field—defining strategy, proving value, prioritizing investments, and driving adoption so Associate Tools become durable capabilities, not one off launches. About Team: Our team is focused on developing a streamlined, dependable company that includes service operations and technology solutions for Finance, People, and Associate Digital Experience (ADE). We also provide a variety of services such as procurement, supplier portfolio management, merchandising master data, and analytics. From developing HR chatbots and virtual assistants to creating invoice solutions and facilitating legal changes, we help drive efficiency across Walmart globally. What you'll do... Set Strategy & Direction Align stakeholders on addressing the most critical associate needs and distilling common themes of problems to solve. Translate operational problems into clear strategic bets, sequencing initiatives based on value, readiness, and capacity. Partner with Store Ops, Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Product to align on where to invest, where to pause, and where to accelerate. Consider all dependencies and second order impacts of the choices the team is making to get a comprehensive value and broader understanding of risk. Build Business Cases & Measure Value Develop annual and multi‑year value cases, AOP inputs, and investment narratives for Associate Tools initiatives. Define and govern KPIs and indicators that prove associate productivity, inventory accuracy, speed, and operational impact. Build executive‑ready materials that clearly articulate what success looks like and whether we are delivering it. Properly tell the value story and address the “What’s in it for me” throughout the user journey Portfolio Governance & Prioritization Lead portfolio‑level prioritization, balancing pilots, expansions, tech debt, and operational readiness across multiple workstreams. Identify cross‑team dependencies, risks, and sequencing issues—and drive alignment to unblock delivery. Ensure initiatives move from experiment → pilot → rollout with clear exit criteria and operational handoffs. Drive Adoption & Field Readiness Partner with Field and Store Operations to ensure tools are operationally viable, operational models are adjusted according to initiative changes and adopted at scale. Align execution plans, communications, and enablement so associates understand why tools matter and how they help. Act as a voice of the field in strategic and product conversations. Executive Communication & Influence Serve as a trusted thought partner to senior leaders, translating complexity into crisp, actionable insights. Support MBR, deep‑dive, and exec‑level discussions with a strong command of data, tradeoffs, and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Experience leading strategy, transformation, or large‑scale programs in retail, store operations, supply chain, or technology‑enabled environments.
  • Proven ability to build business cases, define success metrics, and manage portfolios across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Strong experience influencing cross‑functional partners (Operations, Product, Engineering, Merchants) without direct authority.
  • Exceptional executive communication skills—able to distill complex work into clear narratives and decisions.
  • High data fluency, with experience using dashboards, metrics, and insights to guide prioritization and adoption.
  • Familiarity with in‑store technology, associate experience, inventory, or operational tooling
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Social Science, Communications, or related field and 6 years’ experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or related area OR 8 years’ experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or related area.
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience
