About The Position

The position summary states the general nature and purpose of the job. Overall accountabilities are defined in this section. As the Director of Business Management, you will play a vital role in managing the profitability of a specific category within our business. Whether it's bacon, ham, fresh pork, or any of our other product categories, you will collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Demand, Supply, and Plant operations to deliver exceptional products to our customers and consumers. In this position, you will be accountable for the overall direction, plan development, and execution for a major group or product line. Your responsibilities will include maintaining strong brand awareness and maximizing both short-term and long-term sales volumes and profits. You will plan, direct, and coordinate efforts across product management, marketing, and scheduling to achieve corporate objectives. Additionally, you will ensure that robust product management plans are implemented and that resources are in place to support long-term corporate growth. You will establish priorities and direction for product lines, including pricing, promotion, packaging, product quality standards, line extensions, and capital investment. Furthermore, you will oversee research and new product development and planning for assigned product lines. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 10+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development is required.
  • The ability to work through complex, unstructured problems.
  • Strong mathematical, quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Effective critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both written and oral.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage under conditions of ambiguity and uncertainty and able to communicate across organizational boundaries and reporting lines.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Suite: including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Energized by travel 20% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Profit and Loss Responsibility: You will be responsible for meeting Annual Operating Plan product group/product line profitability objectives for the fiscal year, based on specified budget numbers across specific channels. You will manage the total P&L for a major product category(ies), including sales volume, revenue dollars, cost of goods, gross margin, transportation and warehousing, plant variances, direct marketing expenses, SG&A, and segment profit.
  • Volume Responsibility: You will be accountable for meeting Annual Operating Plan volume budgets for fiscal year within outlined parameters (% of growth).
  • Sales and Manufacturing Initiatives: You will travel to Smithfield markets to meet with key customers, work with sales, and gain competitive/market intelligence. You will Work in manufacturing plants along with Operations and QA to ensure specified standards and quality are consistently achieved.
  • Marketing Initiatives: P rovide Strategic direction for consumer and trade plan and collaborate with Marketing and Consumer Marketing on promotions, media placement, product line position, and pricing. Utilize Circana, Fresh Look information and other syndicated data to help manage and drive new distribution. Participate and lead brand planning process. Provide instruction and direction to retail and foodservice brand management to grow product line awareness. Lead new product development process from concept to launch.
  • Inventory Management: Responsible for Inventory management including meeting inventory turns, SKU management and rationalization
  • Price Management: Set and monitor product/customer pricing to include: maintenance of price lists, setting of MSRP's, reduction of off invoice allowances, and implementation of the pricing strategy to meet company objectives.
