About The Position

Hirewell is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a growing commercial general contractor based in Fort Myers, Florida. This is a newly created position to support an aggressive growth phase, with the company currently booked 18 months out and building the pipeline for 2026 and beyond. Our client seeks a Business Development Director to lead relationship development with developers and architects across Southwest Florida markets. This role focuses on strategic, long-cycle prospecting for commercial projects averaging $15M, with an emphasis on building trust early in the pre-construction phase rather than traditional hard-bid pursuit.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in business development in construction or construction-adjacent fields - strong relationship skills and Florida market knowledge
  • Experience connecting with commercial real estate decision-makers (developers, architects, owners)
  • Comfort with persistent, multi-touch follow-up over extended periods
  • Florida residency or willingness to relocate to Florida
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly for client meetings

Nice To Haves

  • Existing relationships with Florida developers, architects, or commercial real estate firms
  • Commercial construction industry knowledge
  • Marketing coordination or campaign management experience
  • Familiarity with Southwest Florida (Tampa-Fort Myers-Naples corridor) market

Responsibilities

  • Lead Generation & Prospecting Mine Dodge reports and industry sources for projects in planning phase (18+ months from groundbreaking)
  • Identify and qualify opportunities across office, retail, hospitality, and multifamily sectors
  • Initiate contact with project owners and architects during pre-construction phase
  • Maintain persistent follow-up beyond initial outreach to convert prospects to meetings
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with developers and architects across Florida
  • Position the company's pre-construction services and self-perform capabilities as value differentiators
  • Secure initial meetings to bring the company to the table for project opportunities
  • Coordinate with VP of Pre-Construction for client presentations and technical discussions
  • Establish brand recognition with key decision-makers in Southwest Florida (Tampa south)
  • Develop strategic approach to relationship cultivation over 12-18 month sales cycles
  • Leverage company's competitive advantages: self-performed concrete masonry and carpentry division
  • Potentially coordinate marketing activities in partnership with external marketing firm
  • Achieve quick wins establishing brand recognition with target developers and architects
  • Build strategic prospecting system for projects 18+ months from groundbreaking
  • Develop persistent follow-up cadence beyond bulk email campaigns
  • Secure initial client meetings leveraging company's self-perform competitive advantage
  • Establish productive working relationship with VP of Pre-Construction for joint client presentations
