About The Position

Servier in the U.S. is a Boston-based, commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company launched by Servier Group in 2018. As a privately held organization, Servier is uniquely positioned to advance cutting-edge science, tackle underserved therapeutic areas and make patients the focus of every strategic decision. Servier is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Director with a strong scientific background to join our US team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for scouting, evaluating, and coordinating the evaluation of licensing opportunities in the therapeutic areas of oncology and neurology. This role will play a crucial part in driving Servier’s strategic growth and innovation in these key areas. Reporting directly to the US Chief of Business Officer, with a dotted line to the Head of Global Business Development, the Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of Servier’s Global Business Development Strategy to achieve the company's strategic goals in the US. This includes supporting a comprehensive range of Business Development & Licensing activities such as identifying, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing agreements. Additionally, this role will support the US Operations with specific US Business Development strategies and operational requirements. The primary therapeutic areas of focus are Oncology and Neurology. The Director will represent Servier in our US venture capital fund, provide support for future venture capital activities as needed and play an active role in optimizing local/global connections, especially related to external growth strategies and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a scientific discipline required (Ph.D., MD, or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, licensing, or related roles within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • An excellent in-depth knowledge of the healthcare industry including drug development and related regulatory environment, prior experience in a global organization
  • Strong knowledge of oncology and/or neurology therapeutic areas preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully scouting, evaluating, and closing licensing opportunities.
  • Flexible, personable team-player, able to think "out-of-the-box"; comfort with a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to set and meet ambitious deadlines, handle numerous multifaceted legal issues, and see projects through to conclusion.
  • Strong written and verbal analytical, negotiation and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both scientists and management.
  • Ability to distill complexity and to communicate decisively with sound judgment

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and execution of Servier’s global business development strategy.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging opportunities.
  • Ensure proactive assessment of local eco-system and leveraging that expertise to BD process development initiatives and potential growth opportunities
  • Prepare compelling materials (pitch decks, term sheets, etc.) to support BD discussions and negotiations.
  • Serve as a dual liaison: to US team for BD activities and to the Global BD team for US deals
  • Represent Servier in relevant industry conferences, meetings, and events
  • Represent the Global/US BD team at US ecosystem events
  • Build a close working relationship with External Innovation R&D US team to ensure optimal representation in the US innovation ecosystem
  • In alignment with Therapy Area BD, actively scout for new licensing opportunities in oncology and neurology, and establish initial contact with US based external companies as appropriate
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of market trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including biotechs, incubators, and industry partners.
  • Act as project lead for early and late-stage projects for cross functional scientific and commercial evaluations (typically where bandwidth constraints exist for project leadership resources, or where project specifics dictate a US based lead)
  • Lead or support presentation of business cases and project proposals to internal governance committees for approval; bringing projects from inception to completion.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the feasibility, risks, and benefits of new opportunities.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to support decision-making processes.
  • Coordinate the US evaluation process, ensuring timely and efficient assessment of opportunities in full coordination with the global team
  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams involved in the evaluation process, including R&D, Legal, Finance, and Commercial departments.
  • Develop and implement strategies to streamline the evaluation and licensing process.
  • Participate in negotiations to secure favorable licensing agreements.
  • Work closely with legal and financial teams to structure agreements that align with Servier’s strategic goals.
  • Ensure successful closing and post-deal integration of newly acquired assets.
  • Visit to Paris HQ office 2-3 times per year, with timing and frequency as appropriate
  • Other accountabilities as required or directed by the direct line manager or BD Functional Management
