About The Position

Breakthru Beverage Group is looking for a Director of Business Development with a robust background in Wine to join our team! This position is crucial for developing strong sales and marketing capabilities within the company, which will strengthen BBG's relationships with suppliers. The Director of Business Development will provide strategic guidance for current and future projects, aligning with supplier sales, marketing, and corporate strategies. The goal is to enhance BBG's reputation as the preferred partner by delivering outstanding results, effective planning, and thorough execution. Additionally, the Director will work on maintaining and enhancing the cultural ties between BBG and its suppliers, aiming to exceed the national average of the supplier's annual operating plan. By fostering a strong partnership with suppliers, this role will drive better outcomes, increased collaboration, and opportunities for market expansion. Knowledge of wine is a must! This position functions in a hybrid model and can be based from most Breakthru Beverage office locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent training and work experience
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in Wine sales and marketing
  • Significant passion for and experience in wine sales, finance or business development demonstrating understanding of wine sales drivers
  • Proficient PC skills using MS Office and other various computer programs including presentation software
  • Results-oriented professional with verbal/written communication skills using diplomacy and discretion as well as customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team, pay attention to detail and meet deadlines
  • Analytic and Reporting skills
  • Utilize sound judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume, team environment
  • Champion of change with DE&I

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of legacy Sales organization and deep understanding of sales / pricing processes/ trade development, bus managers processes
  • Proficient in Power Pt, Excel, Nielsen Data
  • Expertise in local market pricing and programming systems / regulations
  • Experience with large-scale change management and driving change through influence
  • Strong analytical abilities and in-depth experience with core Breakthru systems (e.g., SAP, DSS, HANA, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic plan development and AOP build
  • Develop/implement/execute supplier commercial strategy
  • Leverage BBG's full suite of capabilities that enable performance
  • Lead with data and insights to proactively influence the supplier on channel strategies, portfolio gaps, marketing plans
  • Collaborate with supplier to develop effective sales tools, market strategies, materials and executive trainings across the markets that will enhance KPI performance
  • Collaborate with the BBG markets and establish a uniform and aligned approach to achieving the mutually agreed upon objectives
  • Communicate supplier objectives, priorities, strategies and brand standards to the BBG markets and leadership
  • Close gaps and identify opportunities to ensure the delivery of in-market KPIs
  • Develop and help facilitate the execution of critical channel plans
  • Coordinate and liaise between supplier and BBG departments to increase alignment and ease of doing business
  • Understand the legislative environment and how each market goes to market
  • Constant understanding and evaluation of shopper insights, apply back into the business
  • Stay on top of emerging industry trends and general consumer packaged goods
  • Deep understanding of the supplier business by channel, by market, use the insights and convert into value-add action
  • Understand consumer purchase intent and motivation, how to consult suppliers to improve brand positioning to meet the changing consumer
  • Develop, implement national focus programs that deliver exponential results based on data/insight
  • Execute Power Period Calendar to ensure execution against suppliers' most important programs
  • Measure and evaluate to determine how to apply learnings back into the business
  • Identify and execute creative solutions that positively impact business delivery
  • Proactively present and close on commercial programming opportunities
  • Establish deep-rooted networks within the supplier's organization, sales, marketing, strategy, national accounts, digital, HR
  • Access to the highest levels within the supplier organization; understand the supplier's long-range vision
  • Comprehend the inner workings of the supplier and how decision-making works
  • Ability to influence the supplier community
  • Ensure long-lasting relationships exist at all levels of the BBG & supplier organizations
  • Support the delivery of supplier revenue, gross profit margin objectives; mitigate soft spots with effective action plans
  • Monitor and manage aged inventory, hold supplier accountable to protect BBG's profitability
  • Seek BBG's fair share of supplier financial resources to assist our commercial efforts and plan attainment objectives
