About The Position

The Director, Build-A-Bear Foundation, leads the strategic direction and execution of all Foundation initiatives. The Director shapes the Foundation’s vision, deepens relationships with nonprofit partners, and ensures that every initiative reflects the joy, empathy, and imagination that defines Build-A-Bear.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 8+ years of experience in nonprofit leadership, corporate philanthropy, or corporate social responsibility.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, compliance, and financial management.
• Exceptional problem-solving, storytelling, and organizational skills.
• Passion for Build-A-Bear's mission and a deep commitment to supporting children and families.

• Advanced degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business, or related field.
• Proven success in grantmaking, program development, and community partnership building.
• Evidence of continuous professional development and prioritization of understanding industry trends.

Responsibilities

• Develop and champion a mission-driven, multi-year strategy for Build-A-Bear Foundation.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align philanthropic priorities with brand purpose and enterprise goals.
• Build philanthropic programs that bring Build-A-Bear's heart-centered mission to life.
• Serve as the Foundation’s spokesperson and advocate to strengthen our relationships with nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and philanthropic networks.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to activate brand campaigns and community initiatives.
• Spearhead and execute giving and volunteer programs for associates.
• Oversee mission-aligned financial stewardship, including forecasting, reporting, grantmaking, and compliance.
• Manage Board governance activities, including meeting preparation, reporting, and facilitating decision making.
• Lead a small, purpose-driven team, including performance management and professional development.
