About The Position

The biology of the BBB group will partner with disease area experts to develop therapeutic approaches for treating BBB dysfunction in acute neurological and chronic neurodegenerative settings. This position will be at the Director or Assoc. Director level based on experience and expertise. Additional Information Biogen is committed to advancing technologies to develop therapies for brain disorders. To address the challenges of CNS delivery, the Lead for the Biology of the BBB group will partner with leads from protein engineering and gene therapy technologies to develop and deliver on an industry-leading platform to enhance delivery of Biologics (antibodies, enzymes etc) and gene therapy vectors across the blood brain barrier for therapeutic benefit.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership in BBB technologies through publications and patents
  • Experience evaluating external opportunities and technologies
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment with project teams, gene therapy technologies and protein engineer

Responsibilities

  • Development of a strategic framework for next generation BBB approaches for Biologics and Gene Therapy vectors via matrixed partnerships with leaders of protein engineering for brain delivery and gene therapy technologies groups.
  • Lead the design and development of cellular and in vivo platforms for assessing efficacy of transport across the BBB
  • Lead a large cross-functional team that will prioritize targets for protein engineering for brain delivery group to create new BBB delivery technology to support existing portfolio assets where enhanced BBB access could provide therapeutic benefit and oversee testing of candidate approaches.
  • Lead efforts to identify novel mechanisms that can be used to enhance transport of Biologics and AAV across the BBB
  • Explore and oversee collaboration and business development opportunities to accelerate BBB platform.
  • Work closely with disease area experts to identify therapeutic opportunities to treat BBB dysfunction.
  • Supervision of BBB lab group dedicated to building in vitro models of the human BBB.
  • Work closely with project teams to advance next generation BBB-enabled biologics and gene therapy vectors to NHP and human studies in the next 5 years
