About The Position

Leads initiatives to optimize Walgreens' cost of goods for products and services through strategic procurement and operational programs. Develops external partnerships, creates strategies, and implements tools and processes to enhance profitability while aligning with WBA's overall objectives. Oversees relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., manufacturers) and provides strategic recommendations to support pharmacy purchasing, procurement, execution, and profitability goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience in account management in the pharmaceutical industry or trade relations OR High School Diploma / GED and at least 9 years of experience in account management in the pharmaceutical industry or trade relations.
  • At least 5 years’ experience with client negotiations including negotiating contracts, prices, resolving service issues and reconciling differences.
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget.
  • Experience in leading initiatives in one or more of these areas: pharmacy marketing, pharmacy sales, pharmacy benefit management, and/or managed care.
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical manufacturer business segment and the cost variables involved within the segment.
  • Experience collaborating with both internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a national account director capacity.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 50% of the time for business purposes (domestically and/or internationally)

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or professional experience as a licensed pharmacist, with applied knowledge of pharmaceutical products, manufacturer operations, and/or clinical decision-making to effectively support biopharma partnerships, contracting and strategic initiatives.
  • Master's Degree OR MBA.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fosters relationships with global pharmaceutical manufacturers with the focus on establishing/expanding alliances in both the retail and specialty distribution markets.
  • Develops specific acquisition and adherence strategies for retail prescription products in collaboration with internal support teams and manufacturer partners.
  • Develops and implements procurement policies, procedures, and strategies to maximize value, reduce risks, and align with organizational objectives.
  • Creates and drives value-focused procurement strategies that support the company’s overall goals.
  • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships to optimize product profitability and expand business alliances.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of joint strategies focused on Rx DTC marketing, adherence services, data services, market insights and unique distribution/purchasing strategies that enhance sales for the Company and our pharma partners.
  • Collaborates with manufacturer trade relations and brand teams to proactively identify business opportunities and implement tactics to optimize brand RX COGS and profitability.
  • Utilizes internal/external business intelligence to provide the early identification of new brand business profitability opportunities.
