We create more efficient ways for shippers and carriers to transport goods across North America. The Director of Billing leads the strategic and operational functions of the billing department. Beyond managing standard invoice production, this role is accountable for the resolution of post-billing disputes and the efficacy of collection operations. By collaborating across finance, sales, and legal teams, the Director ensures that billing discrepancies are swiftly addressed and that assertive collection strategies are implemented to safeguard working capital and reduce bad debt exposure.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience in billing, collections, audit, accounts receivable, accounts payable or transportation/logistics
  • The ability to develop customer and cross-departmental relationships to achieve objectives
  • To embrace people development and cross training to effectively manage turnover and PTO. In addition, you’ll promote a positive culture and team environment.
  • Comfort with ambiguous challenges that require a new solution and establishment of a process outside of current norms.

Nice To Haves

  • Transportation Invoicing and Freight Payment Department Leadership Experience
  • Audit background (i.e. Public Accounting or other related experience)
  • EDI Implementation and Process Experience
  • Technology familiarity, such as experience with SQL, RPA and advanced Excel skills

Responsibilities

  • Resolve and remove both long-term blockers and day to day obstacles for the team
  • Drive process improvement through understanding the technology and billing/business process
  • Work closely with finance to identify, track and report and mitigate risks, opportunities and areas where additional help is needed
  • Establish and oversee effective processes, procedure and practices
  • Assist in business integration; this includes clarifying client start-ups, technology process and integration
  • Ensure billing deadlines are met as weekly revenue is reported to the business unit each Thursday for the prior week’s activity
  • Drive team development and maintain positive culture through embracing mentorship, cross-training, and encouraging open communication.
