About The Position

The Director of Safety & Security collaborates with the Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, Chief Flight Instructor, Director of Maintenance, and Executive Vice President to develop and execute the day-to-day management and administration of company safety programs. This position is responsible for developing the company’s Safety Management System, promoting safe actions, being the company contact for safety related issues and serving as a company liaison with members of the FAA, NTSB, and other government regulatory agencies, as necessary.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience with Part 121 or 135 air carrier, required.
  • 3 years’ relevant work experience with air carrier safety, required.
  • 2 years of prior leadership experience, required.
  • Knowledge and operational experience of 14 CFR Part 91 and Part 135 operations, required.
  • Self-starter work ethic, able to work independently.
  • Able to take initiative to identify, develop, and complete tasks.
  • Able to work alone or with other professionals at all levels in the organization.
  • Excellent leadership and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite products.
  • Flexibility to travel 50% based on business needs.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Subject to pre-employment and random drug screening.
  • Have completed an aircraft training course at CAE or FlightSafety.
  • Must hold one of the following: an FAA commercial pilot or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or FAA mechanic certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with department heads to develop and execute the day-to-day management and administration of company safety programs.
  • Develops the company’s Safety Management System, promoting safe actions, being the company contact for safety related issues and serving as a company liaison with members of the FAA, NTSB, and other government regulatory agencies, as necessary.
  • Meets requirements as 14 CFR Part 119.65 Director of Safety.
  • Responsible for management, execution, and continuous improvement of company safety programs including but not limited to Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Internal Evaluation Program (IEP), Fatigue Risk Management Plan (FRMP), Twelve-Five Safety Security Program (TFFSP), company safety training program, and safety promotion program.
  • Responsible for the management of safety risks and security threats to aircraft operations.
  • Confirms operations are conducted in accordance with conditions and restrictions of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC), and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards of the Operator.
  • Carries out investigations, independent of other departments' investigative and review activities or that of the FAA and NTSB, of selected, significant events, incidents, and accidents.
  • Responsible for the management and continued enhancement of company safety training materials.
  • Chair’s the company’s monthly Safety Committee meeting with department leaders to review safety trends and identify risks.
  • Makes timely safety recommendations to company executives and the Safety Committee.
  • Collaborates with department leadership to ensure follow-through and completion of actions and tasks required of safety programs and projects.
  • Collaborates with department leaders to ensure safety programs are integrated into the day-to-day operation within their department.
  • Acts as the Accident Investigation Team (AIT) Leader and NTSB Party Coordinator in the event of an aircraft accident or incident.
  • Reviews and evaluates the adequacy of the Emergency Response Plan and oversee the execution of ERP planned drills and exercises.
  • Monitors industry safety concerns that may have an impact on operations.
  • Facilitates safety audits by third-party vendors.
  • Identifies, anticipates, and takes corrective action to minimize actual/potential delays due to safety or risk management.
  • Recommend process and safety improvements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all cases involving company operations and when dealing with sensitive or security issues.
  • Performs other TransMedics tasks and duties as necessary.
