We’re looking for an experienced and collaborative legal leader to join our growing Payments Network Legal team. In this role, you will provide legal counsel and support to the business partners and second line of defense teams managing counterparty credit risk, network participant oversight, fraud, and chargebacks and disputes. About the Role: The attorney will be responsible for collaborating with various stakeholders on Global Payment Network business and risk teams and other second line of defense teams to identify and assess legal risks and problem solve complex issues. The ideal candidate should have expertise in financial services and risk management. This position will have responsibility for: Providing expert counsel and strategic guidance across a critical spectrum of areas, including: counterparty credit risk, network participant oversight, fraud products, network fraud, high brand risk, and chargebacks and disputes Collaborating with Global Payment Network business teams, the Business Risk Office, and Compliance stakeholders to address risks, develop creative solutions, and resolve issues Supporting agreements, products, and communications for the critical spectrum of areas being supported; serving as the Legal Department subject matter expert for those areas Regular interactions with senior business partners, Legal Department subject matter experts, and other business attorneys The successful candidate will have the following: Top tier smarts and analytical skills Ability to understand complex topics quickly with depth that allows for concise and simple advice Problem solving mentality rather than thinking only like a legal technician Excellent judgment with the ability to predict long-term consequences Growth mindset with an openness to new ideas, diverse perspectives, and unconventional solutions Strong people skills - we’re looking for someone who can build collegial and effective relationships with colleagues and clients Ownership mentality, thinking like an owner vs. an employee Solid time management skills with the ability to prioritize a significant volume of work and to manage multiple deadlines Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence others and write concisely

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • At least 8 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
  • Top tier smarts and analytical skills
  • Ability to understand complex topics quickly with depth that allows for concise and simple advice
  • Problem solving mentality rather than thinking only like a legal technician
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to predict long-term consequences

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
  • 5+ years experience in financial services
  • Experience with secured lending and financing
  • Experience with commercial bankruptcy and insolvency
