Your next role as a Miracle Maker Maravai LifeSciences is seeking a #MiracleMaker to join our accounting team as a Director, Assistant Controller . As a Director, Assistant Controller, you will serve as a critical member and key operational partner of the accounting leadership team. Reporting to the Vice President & Controller, the position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, driving accounting operational excellence, and supporting the Company’s multi-entity global close and consolidation processes. The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with deep accounting expertise , outstanding operational execution, and the ability to streamline processes and systems in a fast-paced, public-company environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with at least 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a blend of public accounting and public-company industry experience.
  • CPA required, does not have to be active.
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including practical experience with revenue recognition, leases, inventory, and consolidations.
  • Direct experience managing month-end close, multi-entity accounting operations, and audit processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of SOX compliance, internal controls, and documentation/testing requirements; experience supporting SEC reporting preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, ideally NetSuite; demonstrated ability to optimize systems and drive automation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder partnership skills, with the ability to collaborate across finance, operations, and executive teams.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented problem solver with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, improve processes, and thrive in a growth-oriented public company.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Operational Accounting: Oversee daily accounting operations across AP/AR, GL, fixed assets, inventory/cost accounting, payroll and equity/stock administration, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Month-End Close & Consolidation: Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple business entities; prepare and/or review journal entries, reconciliations, and consolidated financial statements in alignment with public-company standards.
  • Internal Controls & SOX Support : Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting; support SOX documentation, testing, and remediation activities in partnership with the department leadership.
  • Audit Coordination: Serve as a primary liaison with external auditors during annual audits and quarterly reviews; prepare audit schedules, resolve audit queries, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Technical Accounting & Policy Implementation: Assist with researching and applying GAAP guidance for revenue (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), inventory costing, equity, impairment considerations, and other non-routine transactions; support the implementation of updated accounting policies.
  • Support SEC Reporting Processes: Partner with team to prepare schedules and analyses for 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K filings; ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation of reported financial data.
  • Systems & Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement and automation of workflows, including optimizing ERP usage, strengthening data integrity, and leading enhancements that increase scalability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with FP&A, Operations, Legal and IT to ensure alignment of accounting outcomes with business operations, financial planning, and corporate strategy.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage, coach and develop accounting staff; foster high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement within the accounting organization.
  • M&A Integration: Support financial due diligence, integration activities, and post-close accounting for acquisitions or strategic investments.
  • Perform other functions and duties as required.
