Job Description: The Director of Assessment and Referral Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations in the Assessment and Referral Center (ARC), which includes: planning, organizing, and directing the function of the ARC, including the Mobile Assessment Clinicians and Telehealth services. The Director is responsible for the daily operations of the department and monitoring the quality of clinical care including justification for admission, alternate level of care, and overall quality of patient care. The position coordinates continuum of care between physicians, referral sources and the ARC. The Director will ensure compliance with state, federal, and other regulatory requirements to include Joint Commission standards. Position will hire, lead, and develop clinical and non-clinical professional staff.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a social service-related field (required).
  • Three (3) years of assessment and referral services experience (required)
  • Five (5) years of healthcare experience including previous leadership/management experience (required)

Responsibilities

  • Provides operational management of the department, including the Lexington and Louisville office
  • Acts as a resource and consults with program staff regarding patient care and age specific problems to facilitate problem-solving challenging situations as they arise and enhance staff decision-making and performance
  • Oversees management, protocols, and implementation of the mobile and telehealth services provided 24 hours a day to 13 affiliated hospitals, surrounding school systems, and other affiliated agencies
  • Oversees payroll process for the department
  • Provides and coordinates 24-hour on call supervision for the department
  • Manages scheduling for the office and mobiles teams taking into consideration the departments productivity and highest assessment volumes and patterns
  • Actively updates and evaluates department training processes, resources, and protocols.
  • Monitor MD assignments and physician relations within the ARC department
  • Educate and train staff on core competencies as well as EMTALA guidelines.
  • Ensures the department follows all EMTALA guidelines and keeps adequate related documentation
  • Tracks hospital diversion
  • Oversees quality assurance of assessments and documentation
  • Coordinates and monitors the assessment/intake process, supervising both the quality and time of the intake assessment by coaching clinicians and monitoring patient flow to ensure maximum efficiency and quality
  • Coordinates, prepares, analyzes statistical reports to enhance operations and quality of the ARC department
  • Partners with behavioral outreach to continue expansions of the services offered by the hospital and examines growth opportunities, as well as ensuring high quality customer service is being provided by the department
  • Demonstrates fiscal prudence and understanding of budgetary considerations when making business decision and effectively monitors and adequately accounts for budgetary variances
  • Manages employee and patient satisfaction
  • Ensures the department operates with all hospital guidelines, policies, and procedures; ensures the department meets compliance of standards of various regulatory bodies with affect the provision of services
  • Fosters and maintains positive working relationship with other local providers and referral sources
  • Coordinates daily operations with the utilization management team and denials to maintain high standard and improve preauthorization process as needed
  • Develops, implements & evaluates the delivery of care by team members including development of educational resources/offerings, assists in the critique of delivery of care through performance review, hiring, termination, and promotion as appropriate
  • Works closely with local ambulance and transportation providers regarding contracts and ensures adequate services are available to transport patients
  • Achieves excellence through teamwork as demonstrated by working across interdisciplinary teams throughout the hospital to provide best patient care and process improvement
  • Actively participates in hospital leadership team focusing on patient safety and strategic planning
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Exhibits willingness to learn/perform tasks outside the scope of his/her regular job duties and/or work additional hours/shifts as necessary to meet customer needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
