About The Position

The School of Accounting in the College of Business at James Madison University invites applications for the Director position to begin in Fall 2026. The Director will hold the KPMG Endowed Professorship in Accounting. The position is a 12-month, tenured appointment at the rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor. James Madison University was the first public college or university in Virginia to establish a School of Accounting within a College of Business. The School of Accounting offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in accounting. For decades the School of Accounting has enjoyed a national reputation for excellence in accounting education and is viewed as a prime recruiting school by employers throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Both the School of Accounting and the College of Business are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. All accounting faculty hold professional certifications, either as Certified Public Accountants or Certified Management Accountants. Requirements

  • The candidate must possess a doctorate with an emphasis in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution.
  • The position requires a record of publication, teaching effectiveness and service appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in the School.
  • Additionally, the candidate should meet the College's standards to be academically qualified under AACSB standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification (such as CPA) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AACSB standards and processes is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will provide strong and effective leadership for the School of Accounting.
  • The candidate should also be capable of representing and promoting the School of Accounting to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • The Director will be responsible for academic, administrative, and budgetary matters, as well as acting effectively as a liaison within the College and University.
  • The Director will have a reduced teaching load with 75-80 percent of time devoted to administrative duties.
  • The department fosters a collegial and collaborative team environment that supports student success and faculty development.
