About The Position

This role offers a strategic leadership opportunity within actuarial and risk management, focusing on Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management (CARM) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). The Director and Actuary will lead a team of credentialed actuaries and oversee critical aspects of actuarial and product governance, including model governance, assumption setting, and corporate risk policies. You will collaborate with multiple product lines and internal actuarial teams, providing insights and guidance to senior executives, while also shaping enterprise-wide actuarial initiatives. This position combines technical expertise, strategic vision, and cross-functional influence, enabling you to drive operational excellence, support business objectives, and enhance the actuarial function. Occasional travel may be required for planning, team-building, or conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent international designation strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in actuarial roles or insurance industry environments.
  • Expertise in actuarial modeling, asset adequacy testing, valuation, and familiarity with M&A and LDTI processes.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with enterprise impact.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products, ideally across retirement, annuities, life, employee benefits, and disability insurance.
  • Excellent strategic vision, communication, and leadership skills, with ability to influence executives and drive team performance.
  • Capacity to think innovatively, implement improvements, and maintain operational and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of actuaries, providing technical oversight and mentorship to junior and senior staff.
  • Oversee actuarial and product governance, including model validation, assumption governance, and development of risk management policies.
  • Support business units with product development, pricing, and other actuarial functions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across ALM, Actuarial Modeling, and Actuarial Transformation to deliver enterprise-level insights.
  • Prepare and present analyses, reports, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership, including the Chief Actuary, Chief Risk Officer, and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Represent actuarial expertise in committees, initiatives, and broader actuarial community activities.
  • Identify and remove barriers to achieve business objectives while maintaining a strategic corporate perspective.
