About The Position

The Novant Health Institute for Innovation and Artificial Intelligence Director of AI Solutions Engineering (The Director) provides leadership in architecture design, AI technical stack integration, AI software development, and automation implementations for cutting-edge solutions that advance patient care, clinician experience, health systems operations, and AI platform capabilities. The Director drives the technical vision, fostering innovation, and ensuring the delivery of high quality products that reimagine healthcare delivery.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required in Engineering, Computer Science or similar field, required.
• Minimum eight (8) years experience in a senior technical and/or leadership role in data engineering, machine learning engineering, data platform development or similar, required.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in a leadership role within a technology organization, with a focus on leading tech leads and their teams, required.
• Strong leadership and team management skills: The ability to inspire, motivate, and guide a team of tech leads and engineers, including fostering a collaborative environment, promoting professional growth, and effectively managing conflicts.
• Extensive technical expertise: Ability to apply deep technical expertise to both lead a team of Technical Leads and stand in as required to set the standard for the role. Act as a technology consultant and partner, providing solution architecture designs and analyzing options in terms of technical feasibility, implementation effort, and performance targets. Understand the tech industry landscape and be able to effectively evaluate vendor capabilities.
• Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning frameworks: A broad understanding of AI/ML algorithms, common architectures, AI/ML application development, and MLOps to inform effective guidance of technical teams.
• Outcomes-oriented thinking and business acumen: The capacity to align AI initiatives with organizational goals, identify innovative solutions, and drive value through technology by understanding healthcare-specific challenges. Approach new opportunities with curiosity.
• Excellent communication skills: The ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, collaborate with various departments and stakeholders. Ability to translate needs into technical requirements, and conversely ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Responsible AI mindset: A strong commitment to developing AI solutions ethically, including understanding potential biases, ensuring transparency, and complying with all relevant regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate Degree, preferred.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing AI solutions in a healthcare setting, preferred.
• Experience designing production AI/ML applications employing big data technologies, cloud platforms, and data pipeline orchestration.
