About The Position

As a member of the MUSC Foundation team, the Director of Academic Medical Center Leadership Relations serves as the primary strategic liaison between the MUSC Foundation and executive leadership of the Medical University of South Carolina, including the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA), this role ensures alignment between philanthropic priorities and MUSC’s institutional strategy. The Director leads the development and execution of executive engagement strategies, coordinates high-level institutional initiatives, and ensures seamless integration of messaging, priorities, and timelines across leadership offices. This position plays a critical role in advancing principal and transformational gift efforts by preparing executive leadership for strategic donor engagement and institutional representation. Position is on-site and based in Charleston, SC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, and at least 5 years of related professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Engagement and Advancement Strategy – 40%: Serve as the primary strategic liaison between the MUSC Foundation, the Office of the President, and the Office of the Provost to ensure philanthropic priorities align with institutional strategy. Partner closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement to coordinate executive-level engagement strategies and high-level institutional initiatives. Lead the development, coordination, and execution of presidential and provost-related advancement strategies. Prepare and oversee executive briefings, donor strategy documents, meeting agendas, and background materials in advance of development-related leadership engagements. Oversee the development of itineraries, logistics, and supporting materials for executive participation in Foundation events, donor visits, board meetings, and special initiatives. Ensure all materials reflect institutional priorities, strategic alignment, and the highest standards of professionalism and accuracy. Serve as project lead for special initiatives assigned by the VPIA, determining timelines, deliverables, and measures of success. Convene and facilitate cross-functional meetings to advance strategic initiatives. Anticipate executive needs and proactively identify opportunities to enhance engagement and institutional positioning.
  • Executive Communication & Alignment – 25%: Coordinate communication flow between the MUSC Foundation and MUSC Executive Leadership to ensure clarity and alignment. Maintain strong working knowledge of MUSC’s strategic priorities, academic and health system initiatives, and principal gift objectives. Translate institutional strategy into actionable advancement initiatives. Ensure timely acknowledgment and resolution of executive inquiries and strategic requests. Uphold strict confidentiality and discretion in matters related to principal gifts, executive leadership, and institutional priorities.
  • Executive Engagement Planning – 20%: Lead planning and coordination for executive involvement in Foundation events, including board meetings, campaign events, cultivation experiences, and donor recognition activities. Develop detailed itineraries, talking points, briefing materials, and presentations for executive leadership participation. Collaborate with gift officers, academic leaders, and health system representatives to ensure executive engagements are strategically positioned and operationally seamless. Establish tools, templates, and processes to enhance consistency and preparedness across executive-facing Foundation activities.
  • Advisory Support & Process Improvement – 15%: Serve as a trusted advisor to the VPIA on executive engagement strategy, special projects, and cross-office coordination. Identify opportunities to strengthen collaboration between the MUSC Foundation and MUSC Executive Leadership to advance transformational philanthropic outcomes. Continuously evaluate processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, communication, and alignment. Ensure all work products meet the highest standards of professionalism, timeliness, and institutional representation.
