About The Position

The Director of Inventory Management is responsible for overseeing the Houston ISD Inventory Management Department, which supports 259 schools and 90 departments. The position ensures accurate tracking, tagging, reconciliation, audit readiness, and compliance for all capital and controllable assets, including eRate-funded items. This role safeguards public resources, strengthens accountability, and provides districtwide leadership in asset management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in asset management, inventory control, or financial operations, preferably in the public sector or education.
  • Expertise in GAAP, ACFR reporting, and capital asset standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to reconcile, forecast, and present complex data.
  • Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and large-scale operational processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, campuses, and external auditors.
  • High degree of integrity, accountability, and commitment to public stewardship.
  • Strong knowledge of administrative functions, policies, and regulations related to K-12 education.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning, organizational development, and change management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee creation, tagging, ERP recording, disposal, and annual verification of capital fixed assets ($5,000+).
  • Manage tracking of controllable/pilferable assets (<$5,000) using TIPWeb-IT, ensuring location integrity.
  • Ensure all physical assets are tagged within 30 days of receipt and properly retired through ERP workflows.
  • Manage daily ZAM5 uploads between TIPWeb-IT and SAP/Oracle ERP.
  • Maintain compliance with federal eRate funding rules, including asset tagging, location confirmations, and audit support.
  • Coordinate vehicle title records and capital lease schedules in ERP and DebtBook.
  • Lead monthly general ledger tie-outs, ACFR schedules, and statistical location checks.
  • Oversee the district’s annual inventory audits, including visual checks and sampling analytics.
  • Partner with Finance and IT to support the ERP transition from SAP to Oracle Fusion Cloud.
  • Direct a team responsible for asset tracking, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Finance, IT, Audit, and campus/department leadership to ensure transparent and effective inventory practices.
  • Provide training, resources, and guidance to schools and departments to maintain compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $150,000.00 – $175,000.00
  • 12-month contract.
